Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has unveiled the first group of designated officials for the People’s Party as the political outfit moves to establish its organisational structure ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The seven officials were announced on Tuesday, September 22, following a meeting in which party leaders discussed national issues and the party’s political direction.
The appointments come as the party seeks to strengthen its presence nationally after Nyoro left the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in August and declared that he and his supporters had joined the opposition.
Seven officials take up key positions
Riziki Makokha from Busia County was designated Deputy Party Leader, while Samora K’alosi of Homa Bay was named Chairperson.
Mwanamisi Swaleh from Kwale County was designated Vice Chairperson, while Nairobi’s Benny Hinn Walubengo was named Secretary General.
John Kihiu of Kiambu County will serve as Deputy Secretary General in charge of Administration Affairs, while Mahad Abdi from Mandera was designated Treasurer.
Dr Jane Sibia from Kisii County was named Organising Secretary, completing the first group of officials announced by the party.
Nyoro specifically highlighted Walubengo, noting that the new Secretary General is 24 years old.
“The Secretary General of the Party is 24 year old, Hinn Walubengo. Intelligent, articulate,” Nyoro said.
The appointments give the party an initial leadership structure spanning seven counties, as it works to establish its presence beyond its traditional political base.
Party outlines opposition strategy
Nyoro said the People’s Party would work with other opposition parties as it develops what he described as policy alternatives for the country.
“We will work solidly with all Parties within the opposition as we offer credible policy alternatives for the revival of our Economy,” he said.
The position comes as several opposition parties and political figures continue discussions around cooperation and possible alliances ahead of the 2027 election.
Nyoro has previously said the People’s Party intends to work with other opposition formations rather than operate in isolation.
Nyoro’s move from UDA
The latest restructuring follows Nyoro’s announcement on August 17 that he had left UDA and joined the People’s Party.
At the time, the Kiharu MP said he and his supporters had moved into the opposition and urged Kenyans to consider the People’s Party as part of the political alternatives ahead of the 2027 General Election.
He subsequently began countrywide mobilisation activities, including meetings and tours aimed at building the party’s national presence.
The party has also attracted political aspirants seeking positions in the 2027 election, according to reports on its recruitment activities.
A new political structure takes shape
The unveiling of the officials marks another stage in the development of the People’s Party as it seeks to build its internal structures and define its role within the broader opposition.
Nyoro has previously supported cooperation among opposition leaders and has said the opposition should eventually settle on a single presidential candidate and running mate for the 2027 contest.
The People’s Party leadership will now have to establish its wider organisational structures, coordinate grassroots mobilisation and define its relationship with other opposition formations as the country moves closer to the 2027 General Election.
