Timothy Kilimo appointed Director-General of sports Kenya

Date:

The Deputy Director at the Presidential Delivery Unit Timothy Kilimo has been named the new Director-General of Sports Kenya, taking over from Gabriel Komora, who was serving in acting capacity.

Kilimo takes over the reins at a time when the country prepares for sporting facilities’ infrastructure inspections linked to next year’s Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) competition.

He will work towards steering the agency’s strategic direction, building partnerships and improving facility standards.

The agency is tasked with overseeing the construction, management and maintenance of the national sports centers, as well as implementing sports programs across the whole country.

Sports Kenya plays a central role in Kenya’s sporting landscape of coordinating development of stadia, training centres and athletic infrastructure under the Sports Act to support athletes and major events.

At the Presidential Delivery Unit-Executive Office of the President, Kilimo was part of the team tasked with improving the coordination of National Government flagship programs, as well as to monitoring, evaluating and reporting on progress made on key development priorities.

He has an extensive background in the development and non-profit sectors, having held positions at Uraia Trust, VSF Belgium and Save the Children Sweden.
