Kenya Power announces planned outages in six counties on March 13

Kenya Power has announced scheduled electricity interruptions in several parts of the country on Friday, March 13, 2026, as the utility carries out routine network maintenance.

The planned outages will affect areas in Kisumu, Nyeri, Isiolo, Machakos, Uasin Gishu, Bungoma and Vihiga counties, with most interruptions expected to run between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

In a notice issued Thursday evening, Kenya Power said the temporary shutdowns are necessary to allow technicians to upgrade power lines and improve the stability of electricity supply.

The company also apologised for any inconvenience caused to customers during the maintenance period.

Areas affected in Kisumu County

In Kisumu County, the outage will affect areas around White Coal and Great Lakes University from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Areas expected to experience power interruptions include White Coal, Great Lakes University, Sugar Research Offices, Kajulu Water, Gita Market, Kianja and Nyabondo, as well as neighbouring customers.

Nyeri and Isiolo counties

In Nyeri County, the maintenance will affect the Githakwa and Kigogoini areas between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Affected locations include Githakwa Village, Githakwa Market, Githakwa Secondary School, Githakwa Booster, Kiamugwe, Kiriti Secondary School, Gachuiro Village, Giakamaki TBC, Kigogoini-Cuba, Kigogoini Market and Gakere Secondary School.

In Isiolo County, the outage will affect Kinna, Garbatulla and Benane areas during the same period.

Residents in Garbatulla District Hospital, China State, Kinna Hospital, Duse, Rapsu, Kula Mawe and Mbarambate are among those expected to be affected.

Machakos County outage

In Machakos County, the planned maintenance will take place in Kangundo and surrounding areas from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Areas listed include Kangundo town, Maisha Mazuri, parts of Nguluni, Kakuyuni, Syanthi, Mukukuni, Kasyulya Ngove, Kawethei, Mbusyani, Kyevaluki, Kikomba Market, Kithuiani Market, Matetani Market and Muthwani.

Uasin Gishu and Bungoma counties

In Uasin Gishu County, the outage will affect Chuiyat and Bindura between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Areas expected to experience the blackout include Chuiyat, Kamuyu, Tulwet, Ngeny, Bindura, Kapngetuny, Lingwai and Bayete.

Meanwhile, in Bungoma County, power will be interrupted in Lufwindiri and Nzoia Market areas from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Locations affected include Kulumbeni, Chenjeni, Chekata, Chegulo, Mafusi, Sango, Makhukhuni, Vashele, Lwichi Dairy and Lumani.

Vihiga County areas affected

In Vihiga County, the outage will affect Shamakhokho Market and nearby areas between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Customers in Shamakhokho Market, Vokoli Girls, Sabatia Eye Hospital, Mago, Chamakanga, Mudungu, Kwa Shem, Lotego, Busali Union, Mululu, Bugina, Wangulu, Busweta and Jamlongoji Ogalo will experience the interruption.

Kenya Power advised customers to treat all power lines as live during the maintenance period and to switch off electrical appliances to avoid damage when electricity supply is restored.

The utility also encouraged customers to regularly check its official communication channels for the latest power maintenance schedules.
