The Affordable Housing Board has partnered with Huduma Kenya to bring home ownership services closer to citizens, following the signing of a new agreement that will see service desks established in Huduma Centres nationwide.
The collaboration is expected to simplify access to information and services under the government’s Affordable Housing Programme, allowing Kenyans to apply, register and make payments through a single, accessible platform.

Bringing housing services closer to citizens
Under the new arrangement, dedicated Affordable Housing Board desks will be set up across all Huduma Centres, providing a one-stop solution for prospective homeowners.
The desks will support Kenyans through the entire homeownership journey, including registration on the Boma Yangu platform, application for housing units, and payment processes.
Speaking during the signing ceremony in Nairobi, Acting Chief Executive Officer Joseph Kagicha said the initiative is designed to make the process more transparent and user-friendly.
“We will establish dedicated information desks in every Huduma Centre, clearly branded with the official AHB identity. Our staff will be in official attire and equipped with computers to ensure that every Kenyan can access the information they need to make informed decisions about home ownership,” he said.
Simplifying the homeownership process
The partnership aims to demystify the housing acquisition process, which has often been seen as complex and inaccessible to many Kenyans.
With AHB personnel stationed at Huduma Centres, citizens will now receive direct guidance on available housing units, eligibility requirements, and payment structures.
This is expected to reduce misinformation and improve uptake of the programme, especially among first-time homeowners.
Huduma Kenya Chief Executive Officer Ben Kai welcomed the collaboration, noting that Huduma Centres are strategically positioned to expand access to critical government services.
“Kenyans trust Huduma Centres as accessible service points across the country. The introduction of AHB desks responds directly to the growing demand for clear, reliable information on affordable housing opportunities,” he said.
Growing demand for affordable housing
The Affordable Housing Programme has continued to gain traction, with more than one million Kenyans already registered on the Boma Yangu platform.
The government is currently overseeing the construction of 273,067 housing units across 111 constituencies, reflecting a sustained effort to address the country’s housing deficit.
Since 2022, over 8,800 units have been completed, signaling steady progress in expanding access to decent and affordable housing.
The programme is structured to deliver a mix of social housing, affordable units, and market-rate developments, targeting different income groups across the country.
Expanding access through partnerships
The agreement between the Affordable Housing Board and Huduma Kenya highlights the growing role of partnerships in improving service delivery and expanding access to government programmes.
By leveraging Huduma Centres, which already offer thousands of public services, the government aims to bridge the gap between policy and citizens.
The move is also expected to enhance efficiency, reduce congestion in central offices, and bring services closer to communities in both urban and rural areas.
As demand for housing continues to rise, officials say the integration of services into Huduma Centres will play a key role in ensuring more Kenyans can access and benefit from the programme.
