Fares and flight charges from Nairobi to major towns in Kenya this festive season

As Kenyans prepare to travel upcountry to join their families for holiday festivities, major bus terminus around Nairobi continue to witness a buzz of activities, as travellers compete to beat deadlines and reach home in time for Christmas.

While few of the routes maintain slightly normal prices, a majority of travellers, especially those caught up in the last minute rush will have to pay above normal prices to get to their families.

Kenyans travelling to Kisumu from Nairobi will pay between KShs 1750 and KShs 2000 in their 6-hour drive home, while those travelling to Kakamega expected to pay between KShs 1650 and KShs 2000 depending on their preferred coach.

Kisii and Nyamira residents travelling from Nairobi will pay between KShs 1400 and KShs while those travelling to Busia and Bungoma from the capital expected to pay around KShs 1700 for their 452 km journey home.

OTHER DESTINATIONS

Travellers along the Nairobi-Mombasa route will pay KShs 1300 to KShs 2000 across different coaches while those going to Garissa from Nairobi will pay KShs 1500.

Those travelling to Wajir from Nairobi will pay KShs 2700, with those travelling to Mandera will pay KShs 5000 in their 17 hour journey.


Nairobi-Meru residents will pay KShs 1000 to Ksh 1200 to get home while those going to Embu will pay KShs 500-800.

Other prices from Nairobi include Kshs 1100- Kshs 1300 to Isiolo Town, KShs 2300 to Marsabit, and KShs 3000 to Moyale.

Kitale, Eldoret, and Kapsabet residents will pay between KShs 1200 to KShs 1700 while those going to Nanyuki will pay about KShs 1000 from the capital.

FLIGHT CHARGES

Flight charges from Nairobi to Mombasa will range at Kshs 19,500, with prices set to drop to KShs 9,300 by the end of the year.

Those flying to Kisumu from Nairobi will pay KShs 19,500 between 18th-24th December with prices expected to drop to KShs 8,500 by New Year.

Flights from Nairobi to Eldoret will cost between KShs 15,500 and KShs 13,300 this festive season, and drop to KShs 7000 at the end of the year.

Those flying to Lamu and Diani will pay KShs 19,500.
