The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has issued a final reminder to students admitted for the March 2026 intake, urging those who were unable to report to apply for admission deferment before the deadline expires.
In a notice released on Monday, the institution said July 13 is the last day eligible applicants can request to defer their admission to the September 2026 intake, warning that failure to complete the process could result in the loss of their placement.
The college encouraged affected students to submit their applications through the KMTC Admissions Portal before the close of business.
Who should apply for deferment?
According to KMTC, the deferment option is only available to applicants who received admission letters for the March 2026 intake but were unable to join the institution due to various personal or unavoidable circumstances.
The college advised students not to wait until the final hours before the deadline, noting that last-minute applications could be affected by internet or system-related challenges.
“Don’t wait until the last minute. Take action now,” KMTC said in its notice.
Students who fail to submit deferment requests before the deadline risk forfeiting their admission, meaning they may be required to reapply for future intakes.
Applications must be made through the official portal
KMTC stressed that all deferment requests should be submitted exclusively through the official KMTC Admissions Portal.
Applicants were advised to ensure all required information is completed correctly before submitting their requests to avoid delays in processing.
The institution said successful applicants will be considered for placement during the September 2026 intake.
HELB warns students about fake loan notice
The reminder comes just days after the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) cautioned students against a fake notice circulating on social media claiming to announce the opening of loan applications for KMTC students for the 2026/2027 academic year.
The fraudulent notice, dated June 28, falsely indicated that first-time and continuing KMTC students would begin applying for HELB loans from July 15.
It also contained contact information that HELB said does not belong to the board.
Students urged to verify official information
HELB dismissed the notice as fake and urged students to rely only on information published through its verified communication channels.
“The KMTC loan application notice circulating online is fake and was not issued by HELB. Always verify all communication through HELB’s official channels only,” the board said.
The agency further clarified that one of the phone numbers appearing in the fake notice—0711 052 400—is not associated with HELB and should not be used for enquiries.
“Please note that 0711 052 400 does not belong to HELB. Do not use this number for any HELB enquiries or services. Stay vigilant and verify information before acting,” the board added.
The warnings from both KMTC and HELB come as thousands of students prepare to join colleges and universities across the country, with authorities urging applicants to follow official communication channels to avoid losing admission opportunities or falling victim to online fraud.
