The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced the promotion of 34,016 teachers across 30 job grades in one of its largest career progression exercises, targeting teachers serving in primary schools, secondary schools and teacher training colleges.
In a promotion notice issued by Acting Chief Executive Officer Evaleen Mitei, the commission invited eligible teachers to apply for positions ranging from Grade C2 to Grade D5 in accordance with the Career Progression Guidelines for Teachers.
Applications will be submitted exclusively through the TSC online portal, with the deadline set for Monday, August 10, 2026, at midnight.
Senior teacher II has the highest vacancies
The promotion exercise covers a wide range of teaching, school leadership and curriculum support positions.
Senior Teacher II has the largest number of vacancies, with 13,490 promotion opportunities available in regular and special needs education (SNE) institutions.
The commission is also seeking to fill 5,956 Senior Teacher IV positions, 4,210 Senior Teacher I vacancies and 3,075 Deputy Headteacher II posts.
Other advertised positions include 1,865 Deputy Headteacher I, 1,665 Senior Master III, 1,068 Deputy Principal III, 891 Deputy Principal II and 770 Principal positions.
Promotions extend to school leadership
Senior leadership opportunities are also available for experienced administrators across the country.
The commission has advertised 54 Chief Principal positions and seven Chief Principal vacancies in teacher training colleges under Grade D5.
It is also recruiting 148 Senior Principals, seven Senior Principals for teacher training colleges, 199 Senior Headteachers, 272 Senior Master I positions and several Curriculum Support Officer vacancies.
Additional opportunities have been advertised for principals, deputy principals, lecturers and administrators serving in both regular and special needs education institutions.
Applications to be submitted online
TSC said all applications must be submitted electronically through its online recruitment portal, adding that manual applications will not be accepted.
The commission said successful applicants will be deployed to schools and institutions where vacancies exist.
Mitei encouraged qualified teachers, including persons with disabilities employed by the commission, to apply for the advertised positions.
She added that all applications will be evaluated in line with the commission’s Career Progression Guidelines for the respective job grades.
The promotion exercise is expected to enhance career growth for thousands of teachers while helping address staffing needs in schools across the country.
