Tributes pour in following death of actor Bilal Wanjau

Date:

Kenyan actress Sandra Dacha has announced the death of fellow actor Bilal Wanjau, describing it as a heartbreaking loss to the creative industry.

In a message shared with fans, she wrote: “It is with profound sorrow that I announce the untimely passing on of my colleague Bilal Wanjau this early morning due to diabetes complications. Bilal was a GREAT TALENTED ACTOR! We’ve lost one of the BEST in the industry. Burial date is set for Friday, 5/11/2025, at his rural home in Machakos. Kindly keep the family in your prayers. May God rest his soul in eternal peace.”

The announcement has sparked an outpouring of grief from fellow artists and fans who remember Wanjau as a warm, disciplined and gifted performer.

Who Bilal Wanjau Was

Wanjau was widely recognised for his dynamic presence across Kenya’s fast-growing digital and film landscape. A versatile actor, he featured in several popular online comedy skits, short films, and collaborative productions that earned him a loyal following.

Colleagues often described him as a hardworking creative whose humour, timing, and emotional intelligence made him stand out among his peers. Off-camera, he was known for his humility, mentorship of younger actors, and quiet determination to grow his craft.
His work resonated especially with younger audiences who saw him as part of a new wave of Kenyan digital storytellers reshaping the entertainment scene.

In the hours following news of his death, a video circulating online resurfaced, showing Wanjau being introduced to Ozempic, a medication that has become a global topic of debate. Although there is no verified link between the video and the circumstances of his death, many Kenyans have been asking what the drug is and why it has attracted such attention.

Medical experts explain that Ozempic, whose active ingredient is semaglutide, is a prescription drug designed for Type 2 diabetes management. It works by helping regulate blood sugar and appetite. Its global visibility grew when some people began using it for weight loss, a trend that researchers caution should be approached carefully.

Doctors emphasise that the medication should only be used under professional supervision, as improper use may lead to serious side effects.

Researchers continue to study the long-term impacts of semaglutide, especially when used outside its prescribed purpose.
