Kenya Power announces planned power interruptions in multiple counties on March 11

Kenya Power has announced scheduled electricity interruptions that will affect several counties across the country on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, as the utility company carries out maintenance and upgrades on its power network.

According to the notice issued by the power distributor, the planned outages will take place in parts of Nairobi, Kiambu, Kakamega, Kisumu, Nyeri, Machakos, Uasin Gishu and Bungoma counties.

Kenya Power said the temporary power shutdowns are necessary to allow engineers to carry out system maintenance, upgrade infrastructure and connect new customers to the electricity network.

The company typically schedules such outages during daytime hours to minimise disruption while ensuring the safety of technicians working on the power lines.

Areas in Nairobi and Kiambu to experience outages

In Nairobi County, the maintenance exercise will affect sections of Parklands as well as areas around Kilimani and Ngong Road.

The interruption in Parklands will occur between 9.00 a.m. and 1.00 p.m., affecting customers around Laxcon, Kongonis, St. Francis Church, Ojijo Road, Wambugu Road, Chiromo Road and Muthithi Road.

Another outage scheduled between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. will affect parts of Ngong Road and surrounding areas including Muchai Drive, Coptic Hospital, China Centre, Kabarnet Road, the School of Nursing, City Oil, National Oil, Uchumi, Ngong Road Hotel and Bishop Magua.

In neighbouring Kiambu County, the outage will affect areas around St. Linda, Gatong’ora and Mutonya between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m.

Customers expected to be affected include residents and businesses in Gwa Kairu, Riverside, Thome, Miti Kenda, Karuguru, Mashinani, Kiratina Village, Mutonya Dispensary, Kwa China and Kwihota, among other surrounding areas.

Power interruptions in western Kenya

Kenya Power also announced scheduled maintenance work in several counties in western Kenya.

In Kakamega County, power will be interrupted in Lutaso Market and Navakholo Market between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m.

Other affected areas include Chebuyusi Secondary School, Khalanda Market, Ingotse Secondary School, Lwahupa, Matoi Market, Buheri Waybridge and Malaha Market.

In Kisumu County, the outage will affect Koru Market and nearby areas between 8.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m.

Locations expected to experience the interruption include Koru Mission Hospital, Kotetni, Kapkoros Factory and surrounding customers.

Meanwhile in Bungoma County, power supply will be interrupted between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. around Nzoia Sugar Factory.

Other affected locations include Nzoia Sudi, Bukembe and Machinjoni.

Maintenance works planned in Mt Kenya and Rift Valley regions

In the Mt Kenya region, the power utility said several areas in Nyeri County will be affected by a planned outage from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

The areas include Rititi Market, Gatunganga Market, Cheru Village, Kianjogu Village, Thaithi Market, Mahiga Springs Village, Ngaini Market, Rathithi Village and Kahira-ini Coffee Factory.

Additional locations such as Maganjo Secondary School, Hiriga Secondary School, Manorero Village and several Safaricom and Airtel communication boosters will also be affected.

In the North Rift region, parts of Uasin Gishu County will also experience a power interruption between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m.

The areas expected to be affected include Kesses, Chorowet, Lelmokwo, Lelmolok, Ketiplong, Ngecheck, Kampnyamisa, Lelboinet and Ngeria Girls.

Machakos County also affected

In Machakos County, the outage will affect areas along Namanga Road from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Kenya Power said customers around Alliance Concrete and nearby areas should expect temporary power disruption during the maintenance period.

The company has advised residents and businesses in the affected areas to plan accordingly and treat all power lines as live during the maintenance period.
