Travelers planning to visit Kenya are now required to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) at least three days before their journey, following updated entry procedures rolled out by the government.
The ETA system, which replaced traditional visa processes, is aimed at streamlining entry into the country while enhancing security and efficiency at border points.
According to immigration guidelines, applicants must submit their requests through the official portal www.etakenya.go.ke or via the “Kenya Travel Authorization” mobile app.
Step-by-Step Application Process
To begin, travelers are required to visit the ETA website and click on the “Apply Now” option. Applicants must then create an account using a valid email address before proceeding to fill in personal, travel, and accommodation details.
The process also requires users to upload key documents, including a copy of their passport bio-data page and a recent passport-size photo or selfie.
In addition, applicants must provide proof of travel arrangements such as flight booking confirmations and hotel reservations or details of where they will be staying during their visit.
After reviewing the information, applicants are required to pay a processing fee, which typically ranges between USD 30 and USD 50, depending on the applicant’s nationality, plus a small bank processing charge.
Once payment is made and the application submitted, travelers will receive a confirmation email. The approval or rejection of the ETA is then communicated via email, usually within a few days.
Successful applicants are required to download the ETA document and present it, either printed or on a mobile device, upon arrival in Kenya.
Key Requirements and Advisory
Immigration authorities have emphasized that all travelers must hold a passport valid for at least six months from the date of arrival, with at least one blank page.
Applicants are also required to submit health and customs declarations as part of the process.
Officials have urged travelers to ensure all details provided are accurate, warning that errors or inconsistencies could lead to delays or denial of entry authorization.
Parents and guardians can apply on behalf of children, while those needing assistance have been advised to contact immigration support through etakenya@immigration.go.ke.
The government maintains that the ETA system is part of broader efforts to digitize services and improve the travel experience for visitors entering the country.
