Mohammed Abdullahi Warsame was officially sworn in as the 14th judge of the Supreme Court of Kenya during a ceremony held at State House, Nairobi.
The event was presided over by President William Ruto and attended by senior government and judiciary officials, including Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Chief Justice Martha Koome.
President Ruto congratulated Justice Warsame on his appointment, expressing confidence in his ability to strengthen the country’s apex court.
“I am confident that your vast experience will make a positive impact on Kenya’s apex court,” the President said. “You have my full support and prayers as you begin this important chapter of service to our nation.”

Recognition of distinguished legal careers
During the ceremony, Evans Thiga Gaturu and Jedidah Wakonyo Waruhiu were also conferred with Senior Counsel status in recognition of their contribution to the legal profession.
The Senior Counsel title is one of the highest honours awarded to advocates in Kenya and recognises distinguished service, professional excellence, and contribution to the development of the law.
President Ruto commended the two lawyers for their commitment to justice and constitutionalism.
“I wish you both every success as you continue serving our great Republic in the advancement of justice, the rule of law, and the strengthening of constitutional democracy,” he said.
Strengthening the judiciary
Justice Warsame joins the Supreme Court bench at a time when the judiciary continues to play a critical role in constitutional interpretation and the resolution of major legal disputes.
Legal analysts say his appointment adds extensive judicial experience to the country’s highest court.
The swearing-in also underscores ongoing efforts to strengthen judicial institutions and uphold public confidence in the rule of law.
Chief Justice Martha Koome said the judiciary remains committed to independence, integrity, and service to the Kenyan people.
