The Kenya Power Foundation has rolled out a KSh20 million nationwide initiative aimed at improving livelihoods through investments in education, healthcare, environmental conservation and community welfare projects.
The programme, dubbed Wezesha Jamii, is an employee-led initiative designed to strengthen ties between Kenya Power and communities by supporting impactful grassroots projects across multiple counties.
The month-long campaign is expected to benefit more than 20 institutions and community organisations spread across the country.
Speaking during the launch event in Nairobi, Kenya Power Foundation Patron and Chairperson Logan Christi Hambrick said the initiative reflects the organisation’s commitment to empowering communities and improving living standards.
“Wezesha Jamii is about creating opportunities and restoring dignity within our communities. Through investments in schools, health programmes and environmental sustainability, we are helping communities build a better future,” she said.
Hambrick noted that the Foundation is focusing on long-term, sustainable projects that directly address challenges facing local communities.
Focus on Education and Healthcare
Under the education and skills development pillar, the Foundation plans to renovate classrooms, construct sanitation facilities, establish ICT laboratories and upgrade school dormitories in selected institutions.
The programme will support schools including Kakamega High School, Mabanga RC Primary School in Bungoma, Muguna Comprehensive School in Siaya, Wikoteng Primary School in Homa Bay, Nyamuga Comprehensive School in Rongo, Chief Mbogori Girls’ High School, Lamu Girls Secondary School, Rabai Secondary School, Kabarnet High School in Baringo and Chepngochoch Primary and Junior Secondary School in Uasin Gishu.
In the healthcare sector, the Foundation plans to conduct medical camps, renovate health facilities and provide assistive equipment for children living with disabilities.
Among the targeted projects is support for vulnerable children at Perur Rays of Hope Rescue Centre in West Pokot and the provision of therapy and assistive equipment to Light and Hope for Disabled Children in Korogocho, Nairobi.
Expanding Community Impact
The initiative is expected to conclude in Nyamira County at Danes Eronge Secondary School after a series of engagements across several counties.
Kenya Power Foundation operates under three main pillars — Energy and Environment, Education and Skills Development, and Social Investment and Community Wellness — with the goal of scaling social impact projects in all 47 counties.
Officials said the programme is part of broader efforts to improve community wellbeing while promoting inclusive and sustainable development nationwide.
