#DAY BREAK: Migori explosives, Jirongo’s death probe Wednesday Trends

Date:

Jirongo’s Death Probe

Probe into former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo’s death ranked as one of the top Wednesday trends, sparking conversation and debate after investigators reconstructed the final 40 seconds before the fatal head-on collision along the Nakuru–Naivasha Highway.

Hashtag #CCTV dominated the online space, with CCTV cameras at Eagol Petrol Station showing Jirongo driving into the station, briefly stopping at the exit, making a sudden right turn back toward Nairobi and being struck by a Climax Company Ltd passenger bus.

The violent impact pushed Jirongo’s Mercedes-Benz approximately 25 metres from the point of collision, while the bus came to a halt about 50 metres away. Jirongo, 64, died at the scene from severe head injuries.

The bus driver, Tyrus Kamau Githinji, was released on cash bail even as Jirongo’s final movements follows public demands for answers from his funeral committee, chaired by former Westlands MP Fred Gumo.
The committee has questioned how Jirongo, who was reportedly travelling from Karen to his home in Gigiri, ended up in Naivasha.

Evans Mugubi @EvansMugubi on X wrote “Am still waiting for the passengers??? What happens to them? Did they reach their destination, were they given another bus? Did they see anything?”

First World Status

The hashtag #FirstWorldStatus garnered over 52.4K posts as Kenyans delved into President William Ruto’s first world status dream

President Ruto insists that the National Infrastructure Fund and the Sovereign Wealth Fund approved by Cabinet will provide economic prosperity and elevate the status of over 10 million Kenyans living below the poverty line.

Ruto is confident that the Ksh.5 trillion would fund the country’s transformation and take it to the next level, saying the funds will be used in upgrading and expanding high-quality infrastructure.

JourneytoSingapore and #AmbitiousRuto were also top trends throughout the conversation.

Reuben Kigame @ReubenKigame on X wrote “The SingaporeDelusion is being forced on Kenyans in the name of economic recovery and moving the country to first world status. I warn each of you in love that this is the new mantra to justify the looting of our resources and the entrenchment of dangerous dictatorship. The same president chasing the KK manifesto, vision 2030, vision 2063 and the journey to Singapore! And you will all follow like sheep to the slaughter? Ujinga! Ufala!”

Dynasty @kevo_atandi wrote “President William Ruto’s Singapore Plan charts a disciplined, investor friendly, and people centred pathway for Kenya’s irreversible journey to first world status prosperity”

Migori Security Scare

Multi agency security team recovered seven pieces of an explosive device found planted under Nyatike Bridge ahead of President Ruto’s tour of Migori County.

Bomb disposal experts successfully defused the suspected improvised explosive device (IED) which was connected to a live wire.

In the operation, seven pieces of gel explosives were recovered from the scene after it was cordoned off for several hours.

No injuries were reported in the operation, and investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the placement of the explosive device.

Walter @WSylvesterKaluo wrote “But how the situation was handled is quite embarrassing. No evacuation, zero protective gear and materials. We are joking as a country”

Free Soul @Tronjan_k wrote “A nondescript bridge in some remote place. How were the explosives discovered? Intel? Chance? The president couldn’t possibly have used that bridge anyway”
