#Daybreak: EPL, infrastructure fund, road safety dominate Tuesday morning trends

Kenya’s online and digital space on Tuesday involved a blend of politics and sports, as Kenyans discussed new policies and road safety measures as well as joined in conversation over the Monday night football fixture.

EPL MONDAY NIGHT CLASH

Football fans across the world were treated to an entertaining Monday night football that saw English sides Manchester United and Bournemouth lock horns in what has been described as the most entertaining game kd the season yet.

Amad Dialo opened the scoring for United giving the home team an early dominance in the game before Antoine Semenyo ended his seven-match goal drought and equalised for the visitors.

Casemiro restored United’s lead just before the break to make it 2-1 but Evanilson made it 2-2 just 39 seconds into the second half. Bournemouth scored a third through Marcus Taverbier within minutes to make it 2-3 as the visitors took the lead.

Bruno Fernandes scored from a free kick to make the scores 3-3 while Matheus Cunha grabbed the lead for Unuted two minutes later to make the scores 4-3.

Eli Kroupi scored a late winner to end the game in a draw at Old Trafford.

12 RELATIVES KILLED ALONG KISII-KISUMU HIGHWAY

A wedding turned into a funeral on Sunday night after a truck and a matatu carrying family members returning from a wedding ceremony collided, leaving 12 people dead.

Ten people lost their lives on the spot while two succumbed in hospital less than 24 hours after another accident killed 8 people at Ekerenyo, on the same route.

Six others sustained injuries with reports indicating that the driver of the truck disappeared after the accident.

Reports indicate the lorry travelling towards Katito collided head on with the matatu which was cominf from Kakamega.

MOBILE COURTS FOR TRAFFIC OFFENDERS

Chief Justice Martha Koome announced on Monday that mobile Courts would be deployed using both physical and digital platforms to fast-track traffic cases during the festive season.

Koome said the Judiciary will work closely with other agencies to ensure the courts are available when violations occur, adding that the move is aimed at ensuring swift handling of traffic cases on the roads.

“We will deploy mobile traffic courts using physical and digital means, with close collaboration. We will share this so that those who are charged can quickly get in touch with their lawyers,” she said.

INFRASTRUCTURE FUND

Cabinet, on Monday approved the establishment of a Ksh5 trillion National Infrastructure Fund, as well as the Sovereign Wealth Fund to mobilise and deploy capital into infrastructure projects.

According to the Government, the National Infrastructure Fund is approved as a limited liability company and will serve as the central engine for aligning the administration’s financial resources with national development priorities.

The two funds will use creative financing by tapping into domestic resources, selling mature public assets, and deploying national savings. They will also attract foreign investors through capital markets.

All proceeds from privatisation will be set aside for infrastructure investment. The Sovereign Wealth Fund policy, there will manage revenues from mineral and petroleum resources, dividends from public investments and part of privatisation proceeds.
