Kenya’s evening trends are a mix of relief, controversy and political intrigue. From a Sh54 million education boost set to abolish fees for 12,000 learners in Mathira, to heated Afcon debates as Morocco and Senegal continue to dominate the conversation, the digital space is buzzing.

President William Ruto’s NYOTA programme and a growing ODM rift after deputy party leader Godfrey Osotsi accused the Oburu Oginga-led faction of misleading the party are also shaping tonight’s top conversations.
Let’s dive into the top trends in Kenya this evening
MathiraSchoolFeesZero
A top trend alongside #WamumbiDelivers and #EricWamumbi, the hashtag follows today’s launch of Masomo kwa Wote (Education to All) Program by Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi that will see school fees for 12, 000 learners in day primary and secondary schools abolished, a replica of Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro’s recent initiative that reduced fees to Sh500 per term.
MP Wamumbi, who is an ardent supporter of President William Ruto, said Sh54 million from the NG-CDF kitty will also take care of learners meals.
“Those charging Sh500 in their areas should come for a benchmark on how to completely abolish school fees,” he said, in a direct jab at Kiharu counterpart.
Senegal

The team emerged winners in the Afcon 2025 tournament after beating Morocco 1-0 in the finals hosted in the latter country.
The team’s attacker Sadio Mane who plays for Al Nassr FC was named the best player of the tournament.
Senegal President Bassirou Diomaye Faye even declared Monday a paid holiday in honour of the victory though citizens castigated him for watching the finals from Abu Dhabi instead of accompanying the national team players to Rabat.
Nyotabusinesssupport
Kenyans continue to hail President William Ruto’s Sh5 billion NYOTA program that is providing business startup grants to thousands of Kenyan youths.
“From Nairobi to Samburu, Kakamega and Eldoret, NYOTA ensures opportunities reach every corner, building an inclusive national growth for future generations,” Kevo Atandi hailed the economic empowerment programme.
Winnie
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s daughter Winnie Odinga is trending for the fourth day in a row.
She has been the talk of the town after rubbishing ODM Party leader Oburu Oginga led faction over unilateral party decisions, demanding that all decisions be ratified through a National Delegates Convention.
The EALA MP remarks have sparked divisions within the Odinga’s family.
Afcon
The Africa Cup of Nations 2025 tournament is yet to fade in the mind of Kenyans, thanks to tense moments in the finals where a Senegal goal was disallowed and a controversial VAR penalty missed by Brahim Diaz of Morocco who was the top scorer in the competition that Senegal won in extra time at 94th minute.
HIVSubmittoJesus
Followers of Repentance and Holiness Church’s Prophet David Owuor continue to share testimonies of how HIV has been cured through prayers.
Medics continue to counter the testimonies on grounds that results match ante-retroviral therapy success after virus suppression, ruling out cure.
They have warned that the reports could make patients stop treatment, exposing them to health risks.
HonOsotsiIsBack
ODM deputy party leader Godfrey Osotsi has come back from South Africa with a bang, warning his colleagues on the Oburu-led-faction against running down the party.
He has hit out at the leaders for launching Linda Ground consultative meetings without prior consultations, warning that new slogans would cause divisions in the party.
“They should heed to Ida Odinga’s reconciliation plea. I will not sit and allow people to wreck the party Raila Odinga struggled so much to build,” he said.
Osotsi maintains that Raila wouldn’t have gotten into a coalition agreement one-and-a-half years to elections and that pact was not a priority to the party at the moment.
