How to check KCSE results without landing in the wrong hands

Date:

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has made the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results available to candidates and the public following their official release on Friday, 9 January 2026 by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba.

With nearly one million candidates having sat the exams, several official channels are now open for accessing individual performance records.

1. Online via the KNEC Results Portal
The primary and most reliable method to access 2025 KCSE results is through the official online portal maintained by KNEC. Candidates and guardians should:

  • Visit the dedicated results website at https://results.knec.ac.ke/.
  • Enter the student’s 11-digit index number and one of the registered names exactly as they appeared on examination registration documents.
  • Select the examination year (2025) if prompted, accept the privacy and access notice, and click submit or view results to display the provisional result slip on screen.
The portal allows users to view, download or print their results for record-keeping and future reference. Due to high traffic immediately after release, occasional slowdowns or temporary technical challenges may occur, so patience is advised.

2. SMS Access (Where Available)
In some reports, candidates may still access their results via mobile phone by sending their full index number to the short code 20076. Standard SMS charges apply, and responses may take a little time to arrive during peak demand. This option provides convenience for those without reliable internet access.

3. Through Schools
Individual secondary schools receive official printed result slips directly from KNEC. Candidates who encounter difficulties with online systems can visit their former schools to collect these slips and receive guidance on next steps, including university placement via KUCCPS.

Important Notes
Ensure you use only the official KNEC portal link to avoid misinformation or fraudulent result-checking services circulating on social media. All queries about results must be lodged through the head of institution within the timelines specified by KNEC, typically within 30 days of release.
