Kenya Power Announces Scheduled Outages in Kakamega and Nyamira on March 20

Kenya Power has announced planned electricity interruptions set to affect parts of Kakamega and Nyamira counties on Friday, March 20, 2026, as part of ongoing network maintenance and system upgrades.

The utility company said the outages will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., targeting selected areas in the Western and South Nyanza regions.

Kakamega County

In Kakamega County, the interruption will affect Lubao Market, Bukhaiywa, and surrounding areas. Key locations set to experience the blackout include Lubao Market, Bukhaiywa, Emusala, Emukaba, Mwiyala, National Housing, Showground, Okumu, and adjacent customers.

Kenya Power noted that the maintenance works in the area are aimed at improving electricity reliability and supporting growing demand.

Nyamira County

In Nyamira County, the outage will impact parts of Kipkebe, Chebilat, and Mogusii. Areas expected to be affected include Kipkebe Tea, Mogusii, Sotik Tea, Chebilat, St. Mathias Mulumba, Kitaru, Mokomoni, and nearby customers.

The company explained that the scheduled works are part of efforts to upgrade infrastructure and enhance power stability across the region.

Customers in the affected areas have been advised to plan accordingly and take necessary precautions, including switching off electrical appliances during the outage period. Kenya Power also urged the public to treat all power lines as live during the maintenance exercise.
