Kenya Power announces planned electricity interruptions in multiple counties on February 12

Date:

Kenya Power has announced scheduled electricity maintenance works set to affect several counties across the country on Thursday, February 12, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to upgrade and stabilise the national grid.

The planned power interruptions will take place between 8.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. in most affected areas, with the utility company urging customers to plan accordingly.

Nairobi and Kajiado Counties Affected

In Nairobi County, parts of Huruma, Saika and Karen will experience power interruptions from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Areas in Huruma expected to be affected include sections of Juja Road, 1st Avenue, parts of Mlango Kubwa, Moi Air Base, AMREF Hospital, Mission of Hope School, Malewa Road and St. Teresa Girls, among others.

In Saika, customers around Mwengenye, Kayole Junction, Njiru Slaughterhouse and surrounding estates will also be without electricity during the maintenance period.

Meanwhile, in Karen, the outage will affect sections near St. Christopher’s School, Miotoni West, Jamii Telkom, African Wildlife Foundation, Karen Police Station, parts of Tree Lane and Windy Ridge, as well as nearby customers.

In Kajiado County, the areas of Namanga, Bissil and Kumpa will experience power cuts from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., affecting trading centres and surrounding residential areas.

Central Rift, South Nyanza and Mt. Kenya Regions

In the Central Rift Region, parts of Nakuru County—specifically sections of Milimani and Forest Road—will be affected from 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Key locations include Kirima Market, Safaricom and Menengai boosters, Nakuru High School, Naivas Supermarket, Sarova Woodlands and adjacent premises.

In Machakos County, areas around Mlolongo, including Quickmart Mlolongo and Mlolongo Junction, will experience outages between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m.

In the South Nyanza Region, parts of Homabay County—covering Agolomuok, Seka, Otati and God Oloo—will face electricity interruptions from 9.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

In the Mt. Kenya Region, sections of Nyeri County including Ark Lodge, Amboni, Bondeni, Game Rock and Mt. Kenya Senior and Junior Academy will be affected between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m.

Additionally, in parts of Kapsuser, customers in Cheseng’en, Kipsigis Girls, Chepkutung, Kapsuser Market and nearby centres will also experience power cuts from 8.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Why the Maintenance Is Necessary

Kenya Power says the scheduled interruptions are necessary to facilitate system upgrades, network repairs and line maintenance aimed at improving reliability and reducing unplanned blackouts.

The utility company has advised customers to treat all power lines as live during the maintenance period and to unplug sensitive electrical appliances to prevent damage when electricity supply is restored.

Power is expected to be reinstated earlier than the stated time where work is completed ahead of schedule.
