Kenya Power has announced planned electricity interruptions affecting several regions across the country today, Thursday, January 29, 2026, as part of routine power network maintenance and system upgrades.
In a notice to customers, the utility said the outages will affect parts of Nairobi, Mt Kenya, North Eastern, Western, South Nyanza, North Rift and Eastern regions, with interruptions lasting between four and eight hours depending on the area.
Mt Kenya and North Eastern Regions
In the Mt Kenya region, parts of Murang’a County under the Kandara feeder will experience outages from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Areas affected include Gatitu Market, Githunguri Girls, Kinyohoko, Gaichanjiru, Ngurueini, Kagunduini, Mathareini, Kariti Market, Karugia, Turuturu and Githima, alongside adjacent customers.
Meru County will also be affected from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Ntugi, Kiirua, Gitoro and Munithu areas, impacting facilities such as Kiirua Mission Hospital, Ntugi Market, Kiirua Technical, Gitoro Mission Hospital, KCB Makutano and surrounding areas.
In Laikipia County, parts of Katheri and Kangaita will be without electricity from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Parts of Kiambu County in Gatundu High and Gatundu Hospital areas will also be affected from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Western and South Nyanza Regions
In the Western region, Kakamega County areas of Eregi will experience outages from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., affecting Eregi TTC, Eregi Mission, Eregi Market, Murram, Imalaba, Itulubini, Ihulili, Shikoko, Shirumba, Shitoli and Shijiko.
Vihiga County’s Kesree area will be without power during the same period, affecting Sugar Research, Kibos Prisons, Cibo Industries, Great Lakes University, Kianja, Nyabondo and surrounding customers.
In South Nyanza, parts of Kisii County including Kanyimbo, Nyatieko and Kegogi will be affected from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., while Migori County’s Othoro area and parts of Homa Bay County in Magunga and Luanda will also experience outages.
Nairobi and Eastern Regions
In Nairobi County, parts of Mwiki will be without power from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., affecting Mwiki Township, parts of Maji Mazuri, Kenyatta Farm, Mwiki Police Station, Nyawai Secondary School and nearby areas.
Other Nairobi areas affected include Raphta Road and parts of Waiyaki Way, covering Ring Road Westlands, Raphta Road, David Osieli Road, Lantana Road, Park Inn Hotel, Dusit Princess Hotel, Lemac Offices, Ibis Hotel and adjacent properties. Parts of Mareba and Mukuru kwa Reuben will also experience interruptions.
In Kitui County, parts of Majengo, Ithyokwe Stadium and Kyandui will be affected from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., impacting Majengo, Silyumani, Ithyokwe, Mathunzini, Kiteta, Ikolonya, Wii Market and Kyandui Market.
North Rift Region
In Uasin Gishu County, areas including Lugulu, Likuyani, Sango, Imbinga, Water Intake (KOFC) and Ivugwi will be without electricity from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Other affected areas include Kamukunji Estate and Kaptingia, with outages running between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., and until 1:00 p.m. in Kaptingia.
Kenya Power said the interruptions are necessary to allow maintenance works aimed at improving reliability and minimizing unplanned outages. Customers have been advised to plan accordingly.
