Today, Thursday, February 26, 2026, voters in Isiolo South Constituency and three county assembly wards across the country are heading to the polls to elect their new leaders.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has confirmed that polling is underway for the Member of the National Assembly seat in Isiolo South Constituency and for Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) in West Kabras, Muminji and Evurore wards.
The by-elections are part of the Commission’s constitutional mandate to fill vacant elective positions and ensure continued representation of wananchi at both national and county levels.
Polling stations open from 6.00am to 5.00pm
According to the IEBC, all polling stations opened at 6.00am and will close at 5.00pm.
The Commission has assured voters that any time lost at the start of polling due to unforeseen delays will be recovered at the close of voting. In addition, voters who will be in the queue by 5.00pm will be allowed to cast their ballots, in line with electoral regulations.
IEBC has urged eligible voters in the affected areas to turn out in large numbers and participate in the democratic process.
“Come out in large numbers and exercise your democratic right,” the Commission said in its public communication ahead of the vote.
Voting procedure
Voters are required to present their national identification card or passport at their designated polling station. Their details will be verified electronically using the Kenya Integrated Election Management System (KIEMS) kit before being issued with the appropriate ballot paper.
After marking their ballot paper in secret, voters will cast it in the designated ballot box before having their finger marked with indelible ink as confirmation that they have voted.
The IEBC has emphasised that the secrecy and sanctity of the vote must be preserved at all times.

The by-elections provide residents of Isiolo South, West Kabras, Muminji and Evurore an opportunity to choose leaders who will represent their interests in Parliament and county assemblies.
IEBC has also called on the public to rely on official communication channels for accurate information and to avoid spreading unverified claims, reiterating the message: “Stop Fake News.”
As the day unfolds, electoral officials, observers and security agencies are on the ground to ensure a peaceful, transparent and credible process.
