Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has put government regulators on notice urging them to shape up or risk dragging down the State’s image.
In a fiery address on Wednesday, Kindiki demanded tighter coordination among regulatory agencies, warning that duplication, delays and confusion are choking service delivery.
The DP urged the 127 regulators to ensure they work as one force, not a mess of overlap and inefficiency.
Speaking at the 3rd Annual Regulatory Authorities and Agencies Conference at South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) in Kitui County, the DP said the performance of these bodies is the real scorecard of government.
And Kenyans, he noted, are watching closely.
“They expect urgency, transparency and results,” Kindiki said, adding that weak or inconsistent regulation makes the entire government look incompetent.
He didn’t mince words: opaque systems breed public anger — but firm, fair and predictable rules build trust.
Kindiki warned against complacency, telling agencies to ditch comfort zones and deliver visible impact.
“It’s not enough to be busy. Your work must be seen and felt by wananchi,” he said.
He reminded public servants that the Constitution — under Article 232 — demands accountability, fairness and professionalism at all times.
“No Kenyan should suffer poor service,” he added.
In a sharp closing line, Kindiki declared: “No citizen should ever ask where the Government is — it must be present wherever rules are enforced and fairness upheld.”
