The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced planned power outages, affecting five counties, as part of routine maintenance and upgrades.

The notice shows that the planned outages, spread across parts of Nairobi, Machakos, Kisii, Kiambu and Kisumu, will take place on Monday, December 15, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The interruptions, the utility firm says, seeks to allow fixing of distribution lines, upgrade of transformers, and reinforcement of the power grid, to ensure reliable power supply and avert unplanned future outages.
In Nairobi, parts of Lang’ata Road, the Jonathan Ngeno estate area, areas near Wilson Airport, the Rubis gas station, Uhuru Gardens, Maasai Estate, and nearby areas will be affected.
Kinanie, Kiambaa and Ndugu transport, Kisumu Concrete areas in Machakos, Kiambu and Kisumu respectively will also be affected.
Traders within Lang’ata in Nairobi, said though routine maintenance was vital, the outages were ostensibly happening too often, exposing them to losses.
Kenyans have been advised to regularly check KPLC website and social media platforms for updates on the outages and when the power will be reconnected.
