The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has issued a notice requiring all registered teachers who are not currently in TSC employment to update their records by Monday, March 16, 2026.
The Commission emphasises that this exercise is critical to maintaining an accurate and up-to-date database of qualified educators in Kenya. Teachers who fail to update their information by the deadline risk being excluded from future placement exercises, promotions, benefits and professional development opportunities.
TSC said the update process targets teachers who are registered with the Commission but are not currently on the TSC payroll — including those in the private sector, retirees, those taking career breaks, volunteer teachers and others not formally employed by the Service.
Why the update is necessary
According to the Commission, maintaining a current and comprehensive register helps TSC plan for staffing needs, deployment, payroll audits and teacher support programmes across the country.
In the notice, TSC reminded affected teachers that their registration alone does not automatically mean current active status with the Commission’s payroll or deployment systems.
Updating records, the Commission stated, “ensures that we have the correct information for all registered teachers, including those not currently employed by the TSC. It enables streamlined communication and ensures that eligible teachers are considered for future opportunities.”
TSC did not clarify penalties for failing to update records, but education sector experts say exclusion from future placement and professional benefits is a likely consequence for those who do not comply.
How to update records
Teachers seeking to update their information are instructed to complete the process through the official TSC portal. The steps are as follows:
- Visit the TSC online portal using the official website.
- Log in using your registration number and credentials.
- Navigate to the update/record maintenance section.
- Fill in all required demographic, professional and contact details.
- Upload any requested supporting documents.
- Review the information for accuracy and submit before the deadline.
The Commission has also advised teachers to ensure that mobile phone numbers and email addresses are current so they can receive important notifications and professional updates directly from TSC.
Support and clarifications
For teachers who need assistance, the TSC customer service helpdesk and regional offices across the country are available to provide support. The Commission also advised checking the official TSC website and its verified social media channels for clarifications on the update process.
Teacher unions and associations have welcomed the directive, describing it as a necessary step toward modernising teacher data management, but have urged the Commission to ensure that systems are accessible and user-friendly in all counties.
Some educators, particularly in remote areas, have called on TSC to extend physical support desks to help older teachers and those with limited digital literacy complete the update process.
Deadline firm as March 16 nears
With the deadline of March 16, 2026 approaching, registered teachers who are not currently employed by the Commission are urged to prioritise the record update exercise as soon as possible. TSC reiterated that the update is a one-time requirement designed to help the Commission manage teacher data more effectively and support the needs of the education sector.
Teachers who are unsure of their registration status or need assistance confirming their eligibility to update records have been encouraged to contact TSC offices or visit the official website for guidance.
