President William Ruto has called on members of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to participate in the party’s upcoming grassroots elections scheduled for Saturday.
Speaking during public engagements at Chepterit and Namgoi shopping centres in Nandi County, the President urged party supporters to turn out in large numbers to elect local officials as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s structures across the country.
Ruto said the grassroots polls will play a key role in building a strong political organisation capable of advancing the government’s development agenda.
Push to strengthen party structures
According to the President, the ruling party is prepared to facilitate millions of its members to take part in the exercise.
He said the elections will allow more than five million registered party members to choose their representatives at the grassroots level.
“We call on members of the United Democratic Alliance to turn out and vote in the party’s grassroots elections on Saturday,” Ruto said while addressing residents in Nandi County.
The elections are expected to be conducted in polling centres across the country.

Election of local party officials
During the exercise, party members will elect 20 officials in every polling centre, forming the foundation of the party’s grassroots leadership structure.
Ruto said the process is aimed at strengthening internal democracy while ensuring the party remains organised at the local level.
“We are prepared to facilitate more than five million members to elect 20 officials in every polling centre,” the President said.
Political analysts say grassroots elections are critical for political parties because they help build networks that mobilise support during national elections.

Building alliances and national unity
The President added that strengthening the party at the grassroots level will enable it to collaborate more effectively with other political formations.
He said the move will support the broader goal of promoting unity and development across the country.
“We are building a strong party that will work with other political formations in our continued objectives of uniting and transforming Kenya,” Ruto said.
The grassroots elections come as UDA continues to expand its structures nationwide ahead of future political contests.
