President William Ruto has announced that the Dagoretti Sub-County Level IV Hospital in Mutuini, Nairobi, is nearing completion, one year after the government committed to upgrading the facility.

The President made the remarks after inspecting the ongoing construction works at the hospital located in Dagoretti South Constituency.
“We committed to upgrade the Dagoretti Sub-County Level IV Hospital at Mutuini, Nairobi. We are pleased, one year later, that the medical facility is near completion,” Ruto said.
The 400-bed facility is expected to significantly expand access to healthcare services for residents of Dagoretti South and surrounding areas once operational.
Expanding access to quality healthcare
According to the President, the government plans to complete and equip the hospital before officially handing it over next month.
“We will complete it and equip the 400-bed facility, and hand it over next month to guarantee the people of Dagoretti South accessible, quality and affordable medical care,” he stated.
The project is part of broader efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve service delivery at the county and sub-county levels. Once fully operational, the upgraded hospital is expected to ease pressure on major referral facilities in Nairobi by providing comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services closer to residents.
The expansion to a 400-bed capacity signals a significant boost from the existing setup, positioning the facility to serve a larger population and offer more specialized services.
Inspection of ongoing works
During his visit, President Ruto toured the construction site to assess the progress of the works.

“Inspected construction works at the Dagoretti Sub-County Level IV Hospital-Mutuini, Dagoretti South Constituency,” he said.
The near-completion status marks a milestone for the project, which was initiated following a commitment by the national government to enhance health facilities in densely populated urban areas.
Healthcare access remains a key pillar of the government’s development agenda, with a focus on improving infrastructure, expanding bed capacity and equipping facilities to deliver modern medical services.
Residents of Dagoretti South are expected to benefit from reduced travel time to access treatment, decongestion of larger hospitals, and improved maternal, emergency and specialized healthcare services once the facility becomes operational.
The handover next month will formally mark the completion of the project’s construction phase and transition into service delivery, pending final equipping and operational readiness.
The Dagoretti Sub-County Level IV Hospital upgrade underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening grassroots healthcare infrastructure and ensuring more Kenyans can access medical services within their local communities.
