Wanga fires back at Gachagua over ODM remarks, defends party unity ahead of NDC

Date:

Gladys Wanga has launched a sharp response against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his recent remarks on the state of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), accusing him of pushing divisive politics and meddling in party affairs.

Speaking during a media interview, Wanga dismissed Gachagua’s comments as misguided and hypocritical, insisting that ODM remains strong and capable of steering its own internal processes ahead of its highly anticipated National Delegates Convention (NDC).

Wanga Dismisses ‘Last Supper’ Claims

The political exchange follows Gachagua’s remarks suggesting that ODM’s upcoming NDC could mark the party’s decline, describing it as a potential “last supper” if it aligns politically with President William Ruto.

While Gachagua acknowledged the legacy of the late Raila Odinga, crediting him for building one of Kenya’s most formidable political movements, Wanga rejected any suggestion that the party is weakening.

She maintained that ODM’s structures remain intact and that the party is focused on strengthening its position ahead of the 2027 General Election.

‘Give Us a Break,’ Wanga Tells Gachagua

Wanga did not mince her words, accusing the former deputy president of previously promoting divisive rhetoric and questioning his authority to comment on ODM matters.

“I saw Gachagua tonight advising ODM in a local station. He propagates hatred… and today he goes and purports to advise ODM; give us a break,” she said.

She further challenged him to focus on his own political affairs instead of critiquing ODM.

“You have a village party, take care of it. Give us a break on ODM, we will manage our politics,” Wanga added.

Her remarks underscore growing tensions between ODM leaders and political rivals as debates intensify ahead of the next election cycle.

ODM Projects Unity Ahead of Crucial Convention

Wanga’s strong response comes at a pivotal moment for ODM as it prepares for the NDC, a key party organ expected to shape leadership decisions and coalition strategies.

Party officials have consistently downplayed claims of internal divisions, instead emphasizing unity and continuity following the transition period after Raila Odinga’s leadership era.

ODM leaders say the convention will focus on consolidating the party’s base, ratifying key resolutions, and charting a clear path toward the 2027 polls.

Despite external criticism, the party continues to position itself as a dominant political force with nationwide structures and grassroots support.
