Kenya Kwanza leaders are set to converge in Eldoret on Friday for a major political rally aimed at strengthening grassroots support for President William Ruto’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The event, branded as the “Tutam” rally, will be spearheaded by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and President Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet, with more than 30 elected leaders from the Rift Valley and Western regions expected to attend.
Eldoret Hosts Major Kenya Kwanza Gathering
The rally will take place at Silverline Grounds along Ronald Ngala Street in Eldoret’s central business district.
Authorities have announced that part of Ronald Ngala Street, particularly the section connecting to Kisumu Road, will be temporarily closed to facilitate the event.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii is expected to host the gathering, which brings together Members of Parliament, senators, governors and other senior Kenya Kwanza officials.
Leaders to Push Voter Registration and Unity
According to the organisers, the meeting will focus on encouraging voter registration, highlighting the government’s development record and promoting peace and national unity as the country gradually shifts its attention to the next general election.
Among the leaders expected to attend are National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, MPs Sylvanus Osoro, Mwengi Mutuse, Oscar Sudi, Innocent Mugabe, John Bwire, Didmus Barasa and Japheth Nyakundi.
Speaking ahead of the rally, Farouk Kibet said the coalition’s message would centre on unity and development.
“Our main agenda will be the unity of our people, peace and focus on development as we head to the elections,” he said.
Farouk’s Political Influence Continues to Grow
Farouk has played a prominent role in mobilising political support for President Ruto, particularly in the Rift Valley and Western Kenya.
His growing influence has fuelled speculation that he could contest the Turbo parliamentary seat in the next election, although he has not officially declared his candidature.
His slogan, “Turbo Kwanza, Mambo Baadaye,” has gained popularity across the constituency, where he has been associated with several community development initiatives.
Focus on Boosting Voter Registration
The rally comes amid renewed efforts by Kenya Kwanza leaders to increase voter registration in the Rift Valley, following President Ruto’s concerns over the region’s registration numbers.
Local leaders have since intensified campaigns encouraging eligible residents to register as voters in preparation for the 2027 elections.
Friday’s event will also mark one of the coalition’s largest political gatherings in Eldoret in recent months, after a period during which its activities largely centred on church services, empowerment programmes and community engagements rather than large-scale political rallies.
