The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has issued a final notice to vehicle owners with uncollected printed logbooks, warning that the documents will only be retained for six months before they are disposed of.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the authority urged motorists to collect their logbooks promptly, noting that failure to do so could affect access to several vehicle registration services.
According to NTSA, printed logbooks that remain unclaimed beyond the six-month period will be destroyed in line with the authority’s document management policy.
Uncollected logbooks could affect future applications
The authority cautioned that motorists who fail to pick up their original logbooks may face difficulties when applying for services that require submission of the physical document.
NTSA explained that applicants seeking such services must attach the current or original logbook as part of their application, making it important for owners to collect the documents before the deadline lapses.
Shift to digital logbooks
The latest advisory follows the authority’s transition from physical logbooks to a fully digital registration system.
In May, NTSA announced that it would discontinue the issuance of printed logbooks from June 10, 2026, replacing them with electronic logbooks generated through the eCitizen platform.
The authority said the transition is intended to modernise vehicle registration by replacing manual processes with a secure digital system capable of updating vehicle ownership records in real time.
How the e-logbook works
Unlike paper logbooks, the electronic version is generated instantly through NTSA’s online portal whenever vehicle ownership records are updated.
The authority says the system incorporates digital encryption and secure authentication technologies designed to minimise fraud, forgery and document manipulation while improving efficiency and accuracy in motor vehicle registration.
NTSA has encouraged all vehicle owners with pending printed logbooks to collect them as soon as possible to avoid disruptions when accessing future services.
