Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has unveiled a new leadership team as the party moves to strengthen its structures and prepare for the 2027 General Election.
Kalonzo announced the appointment of former Cabinet Minister Jamleck Irungu Kamau as the new party chairman, while Nyali MP Mohamed Ali has been named Deputy Party Leader designate.
Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru has also been appointed as Wiper Patriotic Front’s first party spokesperson.
In a statement issued on Friday, August 7, Kalonzo said the changes followed a mandate given to him by delegates during the party’s National Delegates Congress.
He said the restructuring was aimed at expanding and renewing the party’s leadership as Wiper prepares for the next General Election and works to build a broader opposition alliance.

Kamau, a former Cabinet Minister for Nairobi Metropolitan Development and two-term Kigumo MP, takes over the chairmanship as Wiper seeks to strengthen its political networks ahead of the 2027 polls.
Kalonzo described Kamau as an experienced political leader and coalition builder whose experience would help the party navigate the challenges ahead.
“Kamau has spent thirty years building coalitions, balancing budgets, and holding fractious political houses together under pressure. That is precisely the discipline the Wiper Patriotic Front needs,” Kalonzo said.
The Wiper leader said Kamau’s experience would be important as the party seeks to establish what he described as a “United Alternative Government-in-Waiting.”

Nyali MP Mohamed Ali has been appointed Deputy Party Leader designate, bringing a younger political voice into the party’s senior leadership.
Ali, a former investigative journalist, has built his political career around public accountability and anti-corruption issues.
Kalonzo said Ali’s appointment would help Wiper connect with younger voters while also strengthening the party’s presence in the Coast region.
“Ali brings not only the Coast region, but a younger generation of hard-working Kenyans who want to live in a country that respects and rewards integrity over patronage, into the very heart of this party’s leadership,” Kalonzo said.
The appointment comes as political parties increasingly seek to attract younger voters ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly as the opposition attempts to broaden its support across different regions and demographic groups.

Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru has been appointed Wiper Patriotic Front’s first spokesperson, creating a new position within the party’s leadership structure.
Kalonzo described Njiru as a constitutional lawyer who has represented ordinary citizens, lawmakers and young protesters in court.
The Wiper leader said the new spokesperson’s office had been established to strengthen the party’s communication as it enters what he described as a new political phase.
Njiru is expected to become a key public voice for the party, communicating its position on political developments and engaging with the public and other political formations.
Kalonzo outlines Wiper’s wider opposition strategy
Kalonzo said the leadership changes were not driven by political convenience but by the need to build a stronger political organisation ahead of 2027.
“These are not appointments of convenience but of conviction. A coalition builder, a man of proven integrity, and a defender of the rule of law — each of them a perfect fit for a party whose only agenda is to Komboa Kenya,” he said.
He said consultations were continuing with other opposition parties as efforts intensify to bring political formations opposed to President William Ruto’s administration under a common platform.
The restructuring therefore comes at a time when opposition leaders are negotiating alliances, leadership positions and the possibility of presenting a united presidential challenge in 2027.
Kalonzo challenges IEBC over 2027 election
Beyond the party appointments, Kalonzo criticised the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission over remarks suggesting that the political environment could affect preparations for the next election.
He also condemned what he described as state-sponsored handouts during recent by-election campaigns.
Kalonzo maintained that the 2027 General Election will take place as scheduled, insisting that voters will ultimately determine the country’s political direction at the ballot.
“The only conversation Kenyans will have that matters is the one they will have on August 10, 2027 — at the ballot,” he said.
The new appointments are expected to form part of Wiper’s broader preparations for the 2027 elections as Kalonzo seeks to strengthen the party’s internal organisation while continuing negotiations with other opposition leaders.
