The Permanent Presidential Music Commission wishes to clarify information circulating regarding payments made to dancers engaged during the Jamhuri Day 2025 celebrations.
All payments were made strictly in accordance with rates approved by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC). The engagement covered both performance and structured training under the National Youth Talent Development Programme.
Category A: Beginner Dancers (63 participants)
Each participant received a total of KSh 30,500 for a 25-day engagement period.
Category B: Intermediate Dancers (30 participants)
Each participant received a total of KSh 34,500, in line with SRC-approved rates.
Category C: Senior Dancers: (8 participants)
Each participant received a total of KSh 44,500, reflecting their experience and additional responsibilities.
During the programme, participants received daily subsistence allowances to facilitate transport and meals. These allowances formed part of the approved total and were issued in advance. Upon completion of the engagement, the balance was paid, bringing each participantโs total as stated above. Claims that dancers were paid KSh 10,000 are incorrect and not supported by any official payment records. In total, over KSh 3 million was paid directly to participating dancers for the 2025 Jamhuri Day programme.
While rates in previous years benefited from wider fiscal space, the 2025 programme was implemented under government-wide austerity measures. Nonetheless, all participants were paid fully and fairly in accordance with SRC approvals.
It is also important to note that all the dancers signed an official contract, agreeing to all the terms of the Jamhuri Day celebrations engagement.
