Rain in Western and Coast as Northern Kenya to remain dry during Christmas week

Date:

Many areas in South and Central Kenya will receive significant amounts of rainfall this week while Northern Kenya counties will remain dry, a December 23–29 forecast shows.

South Rift, Western Kenya, and the Coast regions will experience more rain with Kajiado, Narok, and Taita Taveta counties receiving between 20-50 mm.

Coastal counties of Kwale, Kilifi, and Mombasa will experience flooding especially in low areas as rainfall amounts in the region could go up to 70mm. Lamu and Tana River will get depressed rains.

Light to moderate rain of 10-20mm is expected in Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori, Kakamega, Bungoma, and Busia though some isolated areas within the Lake Victoria basin could get a little extra amount of rain.

Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Embu, and Meru counties and eastern parts of the Rift Valley will experience scattered showers of between 1-20mm, like in Nairobi, Machakos, Makueni, and Kitui counties.

Counties to remain dry with almost no rain at all are Turkana, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, and most parts of Garissa.

Daytime temperatures will likely hit over 30°C in the Coast and in the North-eastern and North-western areas while the Central Highlands, North and Central Rift Valley, and Western Kenya will have cooler nights, of temperatures below 10°C in some of the areas.

Kenyans in areas where heavy downpour is expected have been asked to exercise caution as some of the areas including transport routes could be marooned, disrupting transport and activities during the festive season.
