Daystar University, in partnership with the Inter-University Council of East Africa (IUCEA), has opened applications for fully funded two-year Master of Science in Economics scholarships for the January 2027 intake.
The scholarship is available to citizens of East African Community (EAC) Partner States, excluding Kenya, and applications will remain open until September 10, 2026.
Successful applicants will receive full tuition coverage, a monthly stipend, a return air ticket between Kenya and their home country, medical insurance and a research allowance.
Who can apply?
Applicants must be citizens of an EAC Partner State other than Kenya and must have secured, or be in the process of securing, admission to Daystar University’s MSc in Economics programme.
Candidates must also be 35 years old or younger at the time of application.
Academically, applicants are required to hold at least a Second Class Honours (Upper Division) undergraduate degree or a minimum Grade Point Average of 2.75 on a 4.00 scale.
Applicants with a Lower Second Class Honours degree may also be considered if they can demonstrate at least two years of relevant work experience.
What the scholarship covers
The scholarship provides comprehensive financial support for successful candidates throughout the two-year programme.
The package includes:
- Full tuition fees for the MSc programme
- A monthly stipend
- One return air ticket to and from the scholar’s home country
- Medical insurance
- A research allowance to support academic work
The funding is intended to remove major financial barriers for students pursuing advanced training in economics.
Application deadline
The application window opened on August 20, 2026, and closes on September 10, 2026.
Eligible applicants have been encouraged to submit their applications early because of the relatively short application period.
Prospective applicants can contact Daystar University through careersmade@daystar.ac.ke or by telephone on +254 700 972 000, +254 716 170 313 or +254 748 100 759.
Further information on the scholarship and admission requirements is available through Daystar University’s official channels.
Other scholarship opportunities in Kenya
The announcement comes as other scholarship programmes continue to support students across East Africa.
The Kenyatta Trust Academic Scholarships Programme, for example, supports high-performing Kenyan students from disadvantaged backgrounds by covering tuition, learning materials and essential living expenses.
The programme has benefited more than 3,000 young people across Kenya’s 47 counties and considers academic performance alongside financial need, leadership, community service, integrity and discipline.
Shortlisted applicants undergo interviews and background checks, while successful scholars receive additional support through mentorship, career guidance, psychosocial assistance and community service opportunities.
Students interested in such opportunities are advised to follow the official channels of scholarship providers for application dates and eligibility requirements.
