How to Generate an eTIMS Invoice on Your Phone in Kenya

Date:

Generating an invoice using the Electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS) on your phone is now simple and accessible for all businesses in Kenya. Whether you are using a basic phone or a smartphone, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has provided convenient options to help you stay compliant.

Here are the two main ways to generate an eTIMS invoice on your phone.

*1. Using 222# USSD Code (Best for Basic Phones)

This method is ideal for small traders, informal businesses, or anyone without a smartphone. It does not require internet access.

Start by dialing *222# on your phone. From the menu, select the option related to KRA services, then choose the eTIMS invoice option.

You will be prompted to enter customer details, which may include the buyer’s name or KRA PIN. After that, input the product or service you are selling, followed by the quantity and price.

Once you review and confirm the details, the system will process your request and generate an invoice. You will receive an SMS with an invoice number and a link to download or share the full invoice with your customer.

This method is fast, simple, and works anywhere, making it especially useful for mobile businesses.

2. Using the eTIMS Mobile App (Smartphones)

If you have a smartphone, the eTIMS mobile app offers a more detailed and user-friendly experience.

First, download the eTIMS app (often listed as “eTIMS Non-VAT”) from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Once installed, log in using your KRA PIN and password created during registration.

Before generating invoices, you may need to add your products or services under the item management section. This allows you to quickly select items when creating invoices.

To generate an invoice, go to the sales or transaction section and select “Create Invoice.” Enter customer details, choose the items, input quantities, and confirm the transaction.

The system will generate a compliant invoice instantly, which you can download, print, or send directly to your customer via email or messaging apps.

Which Method Should You Use?

The USSD option is perfect for quick, on-the-go transactions, especially in areas with limited internet access. The mobile app, however, is better suited for businesses that handle multiple products or need detailed records and reports.

Both methods are fully compliant with KRA requirements and ensure your business meets tax regulations.

Important Tips

Always ensure your eTIMS account is fully registered before attempting to generate invoices. Double-check all details before confirming a transaction to avoid errors.

Using eTIMS consistently not only keeps you compliant but also improves your record-keeping and builds trust with customers.
