Residents and businesses in parts of Nyeri and Meru counties should prepare for a temporary power interruption on Friday, June 5, 2026, as Kenya Power undertakes scheduled maintenance works on its electricity distribution network.
The planned outage is part of the utility firm’s routine maintenance programme aimed at improving service reliability, enhancing network stability, and facilitating future power demand across the affected regions.
Nyeri County Areas to Be Affected
In Nyeri County, customers in the Muthinga and Gichira areas will experience a power interruption from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Areas scheduled for the outage include Muthinga Market, Kiriko Market, Eucabeth Academy, Gichira, Kiangacha, Kiriti, Kiambuiri, Mutathini, Kiawaithanji, Gachima, Lilongwe, Ithenguri, Kangaita, Gondo, Mirichu and surrounding areas.
Kenya Power has advised customers in these locations to make the necessary arrangements to minimize disruptions during the maintenance period.
Meru County Customers to Experience Eight-Hour Outage
In Meru County, the interruption will affect parts of Laare and Mutuati from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Areas expected to be without electricity include Mutuati, Laare, Kambi Kairanya, Antubetwe Kiongo, Kieni Kia Muti, Karama Market, Nkoe, Athawene, Mea, Kanuni, Kamukuji, Nkamathi, Mariri, Niaikuriu, Tuuru Mission, Ithata, Kamweline, Kaelo Technical Training Institute, China State Construction Lot 1 and neighbouring customers.
The outage is expected to facilitate maintenance activities designed to improve electricity supply quality and reduce the likelihood of unplanned power disruptions.
Kenya Power Urges Customers to Take Precautions
Kenya Power has reminded customers to treat all power lines and electrical installations as live throughout the maintenance period, as electricity supply may be restored before the scheduled time.
The utility company regularly conducts maintenance and network upgrades to strengthen power infrastructure and support growing demand from households, businesses, educational institutions and industrial consumers.
Customers in the affected areas are encouraged to plan accordingly and monitor Kenya Power communication channels for any updates regarding the scheduled maintenance works.
