The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has reminded students and other applicants that they can monitor the progress of their loan applications through several digital platforms.
Applicants do not need to visit HELB offices to establish the status of their applications. The Board has provided online and mobile options through which users can access their loan information and receive updates.
How to check your HELB loan status
Students can track their applications by logging into the HELB online portal and accessing their individual loan accounts.
Applicants using mobile phones can also dial *642# and follow the instructions provided to check their application status.
Another option is the HELB mobile application, which enables users to access their loan details and monitor the progress of their applications directly from their phones.
The digital services are intended to make it easier for applicants to establish whether their applications are still being processed or whether additional action is required.
HELB loan programmes currently available
The update comes as HELB continues to process applications under various education financing programmes targeting students and employed Kenyans pursuing further studies.
One of the programmes is the 2026/27 Jielimishe Loan, which allows salaried learners to borrow up to Ksh600,000 to finance university, postgraduate, professional and other approved higher education programmes while remaining employed.
HELB has also opened applications under the Civil Servants Training Revolving Fund, which provides education loans of up to Ksh500,000.
The facility targets employees working for the national and county governments, the National Police Service and the Teachers Service Commission who are pursuing further education and professional training.
These programmes are designed to help learners meet the cost of higher education, professional courses and career development.
Why applicants should track their applications
For students waiting for funding, regularly checking their application status can help them determine the stage their request has reached.
The tracking services can also alert applicants if their applications require additional information or action before processing can be completed.
HELB is encouraging applicants to use its digital platforms to remain updated instead of relying solely on physical visits to its offices.
With applications for different financing programmes continuing, students and other eligible applicants can monitor their loan requests remotely and stay informed about the progress of their funding.
