Jubilee, PNU unite ahead of 2027, endorsing Matiang’i for President

Date:

Kenya’s political landscape shifted today after the Jubilee Party and the Party of National Unity (PNU) formally agreed to work together ahead of the 2027 General Election, unveiling a joint front they describe as a platform for experienced, people-centred leadership.

The two parties declared the alliance a defining moment in the country’s political trajectory, framing it as a return to stability, institutional strength and economic stewardship.

The alliance

In a joint declaration, the parties said their decision to unite was anchored on a shared conviction that Kenya requires steady and tested leadership at a time of economic strain and public dissatisfaction.

“These are not parties of experiment or empty slogans,” the statement read. “They are parties that have formed government before, parties whose record in stabilizing the economy, building institutions, expanding infrastructure, and protecting national unity is well known to every Kenyan.”

The alliance positions itself as a counterweight to what it terms rising costs of living and leadership that has drifted away from the daily struggles of ordinary citizens.

Political observers note that both Jubilee and PNU have deep institutional roots, having played central roles in previous administrations that oversaw major infrastructure expansion and public sector reforms.

Matiang’i named flagbearer

In a significant move, PNU formally endorsed former Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i as its presidential candidate for the 2027 race, signaling an early consolidation of support within the alliance.

“Dr. Matiang’i represents discipline in public service, courage in decision-making, and a track record of results in education reform, security coordination, and public administration,” the parties stated.

Matiang’i, who previously held senior ministerial portfolios, is being presented as a technocratic and results-driven leader capable of restoring confidence in public institutions and delivering structured governance.

The endorsement also sets the stage for early campaign mobilization under the rallying call #MbelePamoja, as the alliance seeks to build national momentum around its message of renewal.

A Promise of economic and institutional reset

The Jubilee–PNU partnership framed its coalition as more than electoral arithmetic, describing it as a reform-oriented movement aimed at rescuing the economy and restoring public trust.

“This partnership is not merely political arithmetic; it is a commitment to rescue our economy, restore dignity to public institutions, empower young people, and return honesty to government,” the joint statement declared.

With 2027 still months away, the announcement marks one of the earliest formal alignments in what is expected to be a fiercely contested presidential race. As political realignments gather pace, the Jubilee–PNU alliance has positioned itself as a structured and experienced alternative, betting on governance credentials and institutional memory to win over the electorate.
