Several areas in Bungoma and Laikipia counties will experience power interruptions on Thursday, March 12, 2026, as Kenya Power carries out scheduled maintenance on the electricity network.
The planned outage will run between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., depending on the location, and is part of routine works aimed at improving the reliability and stability of power supply.
Kenya Power regularly conducts maintenance to upgrade lines, replace aging infrastructure and connect new customers to the grid.
Areas affected in Bungoma County
In Bungoma County, the outage will affect parts of the Western Region, particularly areas around Lufwindiri and Nzoia Market.
The power interruption will occur from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m..
Areas expected to be affected include Kakimanyi Village, Lufwindiri, Nzoia Market, Mongonye and St. Paul Nzoia, as well as neighbouring customers connected to the same power line.
Businesses and households in these areas have been advised to plan ahead and switch off electrical appliances during the outage to avoid damage when power is restored.
Areas affected in Laikipia County
In Laikipia County, several locations will experience a longer outage beginning at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m.
The maintenance will affect areas around Jogi, Baguret and Giachuma, including Kwa Huku, Toll Station, Ngarariga, Kamangura, Mirera, Gathiuru and Chaka Reri.
Tourism facilities and hospitality businesses such as Buens Lugar Resort, Esiankiki Resort and Spa, Anka Resort, Aberdare Cottages, Tropical Timber, Bantu Lodge and Misty Mountain Lodge are also among the customers expected to be affected.
Other institutions and facilities listed include Nanyuki Boarding, Ragati, Kinyuki Hotel, Soams Hotel, Narumoru Boys Secondary School and Tambuzi Farm.
Additional outage in Chumvi, Doldo and Oldonyiro
Another planned maintenance operation will affect areas around Chumvi, Doldo and Oldonyiro in Laikipia County.
The outage will also run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Areas expected to experience power interruptions include Olkinyei, Kiwanja Ndege, Doldo Boys Secondary School, Doldo Market, Picha, Ilporei, Kimanju, Ewaso, Ndugu za Nguni and Oldonyiro.
Residents and businesses in the affected areas have been urged to treat all power lines as live during the maintenance period and wait for official communication from Kenya Power once electricity supply is restored.
