Kenya Power announces planned outages in five counties on March 16

Kenya Power has announced scheduled electricity interruptions in several parts of the country on Monday, March 16, 2026, as the utility carries out routine network maintenance.

The planned outages will affect areas in Nyamira, Nyeri, Kericho and Kisii counties, with most interruptions expected to run between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., depending on the location.

The power utility said the temporary shutdowns are necessary to allow technicians to service power lines and improve electricity reliability in the affected regions.

Nyamira County

In Nyamira County, the outage will affect Omogonchoro and Moneke areas from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Areas expected to experience power interruptions include Omogonchoro Market, Moitunya, Nyachichi Secondary School, Kerora and Kiabiraa Secondary School, as well as nearby customers.

Nyeri County

In Nyeri County, the outage will occur in two locations from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The first area is Ring Road and Kamakwa, where customers in Kamakwa, Kamuyu, Nyawira Estate, parts of Ring Road, Kanoga Primary School, Mwonyoria, Kandara, Mt Kenya Salvation School, Ciaraini, Karingaini, White House and St Xavier Githathini will be affected.

The second area is Njoguini and Kabage, with interruptions expected in Njoguini Market, Kiina, Kabage, Njoguini Dispensary, Thatha and Njoguini Village.

Kericho County

In Kericho County, power will be interrupted in parts of Bureti from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Areas listed for the outage include Bureti Dairies, Cheborge Market, Cheborge Boys and Girls Secondary School, Cheplanget Market, Chebwagan Secondary School, Kibwastuiyo Market, Ngesumin Secondary School, Kapseguet Boys, Kureti TTI, Kenene Dispensary, Bokoyot Center, part of Roret Market, Tebesonik Factory and Tebesonik Center.

Kisii County

In Kisii County, the outage will affect Etago as well as Gesonso and Nyakungu areas between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Customers expected to experience the blackout include those in Kenyenya Primary School, Nyangweta SDA Secondary School, Etago Market, Nyansembe, Nyakeyo, Suguta, Moticho, Engou, Nyabera, Nyamaiya, Ekona, Mogenda, Ochodororo and Maroo.

In Gesonso and Nyakungu, the affected areas include Gesonso Market, Gesonso Police Station, Ekioga, Ekioga Vocational and Nyakungu Primary School, alongside nearby customers.

Kenya Power has advised residents and businesses in the affected areas to plan ahead and treat all power lines as live during the maintenance period. Electricity supply will be restored once the maintenance works are completed.
