President William Ruto has launched the rehabilitation of key roads in Sabatia Constituency, Vihiga County, as part of the government’s ongoing infrastructure development programme aimed at improving connectivity and boosting local economic activity.
Speaking during the launch on Monday, March 16, 2026, the President said the government has a clear record of delivering development projects across the country, including housing, health, education and road infrastructure.

Ruto noted that the administration remains focused on ensuring development reaches communities in every part of Kenya.
“We have a clear and demonstrable track record in delivering housing, health, education, roads, and other critical infrastructure,” Ruto said.
“Across the country, we are transforming the delivery of development to the people of Kenya, ensuring that progress reaches every sector and every community, leaving no one behind.”
Sh953 million road rehabilitation project
The project involves the rehabilitation of the 11-kilometre Chavaki–Lusiola and Shikumu–Malinya roads in Sabatia Constituency at a total cost of Sh953 million.
According to the President, the road upgrades are part of broader efforts to improve transport infrastructure and support economic growth at the grassroots level.
He said the government is prioritising infrastructure projects that directly benefit farmers, traders and small businesses in rural areas.
“Our plan is credible, practical, and proven through decisive action,” Ruto said while addressing residents during the launch event.

Opening markets and improving services
Once completed, the roads are expected to significantly improve movement within the constituency and surrounding areas.
Ruto said the improved road network will open up local markets and make it easier for farmers to transport agricultural produce to buyers.
The roads are also expected to enhance access to essential services, including schools and health facilities, for residents in the area.
Local leaders welcomed the project, saying better roads will stimulate trade, reduce transport costs and improve the movement of goods and people.
The government has continued to invest heavily in road infrastructure across counties as part of its broader strategy to strengthen rural economies and support development at the community level.
