Kenya Power and Lighting Company has announced planned electricity interruptions in several parts of the country on Tuesday, March 17, to allow technicians to carry out routine maintenance and upgrade the power network.
The scheduled outages will affect parts of Nairobi County, Kiambu County, Embu County, Nakuru County, Kirinyaga County, Migori County and Isiolo County.
According to Kenya Power, the electricity interruptions will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
The maintenance works are part of the company’s ongoing efforts to improve service reliability and strengthen the electricity distribution network.
Areas affected in Embu County
In Embu County, the power interruption will affect parts of Ishiara and Karurumo.
Areas expected to experience electricity disruption include Ishiara, Karurumo, Kanyuambora, Kyeniri, Ngunyumu, Rwanjeru, Kasafari, Baraga, Kathagutari, Karerema, Murari Soko and Kigwambiti.
Customers in neighbouring areas may also experience temporary outages.
Areas affected in Kiambu County
In Kiambu County, the interruption will affect parts of Rironi, Kerwa and Ngecha.
Affected areas include Rironi, Kagia, Kanduma, Ngecha, Gitangu, Thamanda, Kerwa, Muguga, Gatone, Kamuguga, Universal and Zambezi.
Residents in nearby locations may also experience power disruptions during the maintenance period.
Areas affected in Nairobi
Within Nairobi, the outage will affect parts of Huruma.
Customers along sections of Juja Road, Huruma and nearby areas are expected to experience electricity disruption during the scheduled maintenance period.
Areas affected in Nakuru County
In Nakuru County, the power interruption will affect parts of Mai Mahiu town.
Areas expected to experience outages include Governor, Muniu, Old Kijabe, IDP Camps Longonot, Kiambogo, Sission, Msafiri, Kimunyu, Mafuta Taa, Kigecha and Satellite.
Other areas include Dry Port (Old Line), Jumbo AAA, Longonot Chicken, Mayer’s, China Wu-Yi, Goldstone, Manyatta, Jaeda, Kingstone, Stonematt, Bhudia, Addpack, Hipstone, Nyakinyua, Utheri wa Lari, Ewasso Kedong Market and Najile.
Areas affected in Kirinyaga County
In Kirinyaga County, the outage will affect parts of Majengo, Piai and Murinduko.
Affected areas include Estana Hotel, PK Njuguna, Rogoi, Mugamba Ciura, Murinduko Togonye, St Susan, Kariati, Kadawa, Gold, Mumbu, Itangi, South Ngariama, Ikurungu and Ikurungu Hospital.
Areas affected in Isiolo County
In Isiolo County, the scheduled outage will affect parts of Isiolo town including Kiwanjani and Tururoba.
Other areas expected to experience power interruptions include Kambi ya Juu, Kula Mawe, Soko Mjinga, Mwangaza, County Assembly, Silver Bell, 19 Coins, Glados Hotel, Basalinga, Total, Shell, Cereal Board, General Hospital, Downtown, Police and Safi Estate.
Areas affected in Migori County
In Migori County, the power interruption will affect parts of Bonde and Nyabisawa.
Kenya Power has advised customers to treat all power lines as live during the maintenance period.
The company also noted that electricity may be restored earlier than scheduled once maintenance works are completed.
