DIG Lagat urges new recruits to maintain professional accountability

Date:

Deputy Inspector General, Kenya Police Service, Kenya Police Service, Eliud Lagat has urged new recruits to maintain high standards of professionalism and accountability while discharging their duties.

Speaking at the National Police College, Main Campus –Kiganjo, Nyeri County where he presided over a rehearsal of the pass-out parade, DIG Lagat called upon the recruits to serve all Kenyans equally– at all times.

He further urged them to exercise high levels of competence, integrity adding that they should also demonstrate respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. He added that the government was continuously investing in the capacity.

According to him, the valuable investment was necessary to enhance public security while also offering a reprieve from the policing workload that officers face.

“This parade rehearsal goes beyond display. It demonstrates a renewed and vibrant workforce for the service that offers a reprieve from policing workload and hope for a secure nation,” DIG Lagat said.

At the same time, he asked the recruits to use the opportunity for personal growth and career advancement.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Eliud Lagat urged the recruits to demonstrate their competence, integrity and accountability in the communities they will be serving in

He said: “You will have a golden opportunity and a chance to serve and protect Kenyans and their properties. You will as well have an opportunity to earn and provide for yourself and your families and loved ones.”

However, he challenged the recruits to serve with utmost diligence saying that career progression depends on personal conduct and discipline. “If you serve with distinction, you stand high chances of both personal growth and career advancement,” he continued.

“These opportunities do not present on a silver platter. They are achieved through hard work, discipline, resilience, and sacrifice. Consequently, you must be prepared well enough to face the challenges that come with policing responsibility,” he affirmed.

Accompanied by senior officers including almost all the Regional Commanders, Lagat said that he had been impressed by the high standards training and commitment exhibited by the recruits and their trainers.

“I continue to encourage you to work even more harder, and remain disciplined, and make the best out of what you have learnt,” he said, adding: “I am confident that you have been molded as officers to be professional, efficient, transformational, and accountable officers.”
