Kajiado surpasses voter registration target in IEBC drive

Date:

Kajiado County has exceeded its voter registration target following the just-concluded Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise conducted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

The county recorded a total of 54,980 new voters, surpassing the initial target of 52,842, in what officials have described as a strong show of civic participation ahead of future elections.

Strong turnout across constituencies

According to Kajiado County Elections Manager Festus Mucheke, the exercise registered significant progress across all constituencies.

“We have seen encouraging participation from residents across the county, which reflects growing awareness on the importance of voter registration,” Mucheke said.

Kajiado North Constituency recorded the highest number of new voters at 17,699, alongside 1,975 voter transfers. It was followed by Kajiado East Constituency, which registered 12,657 new voters and 893 transfers.

Other constituencies post steady gains

Kajiado South Constituency recorded 9,203 new registrations and 322 transfers, while Kajiado Central Constituency added 7,882 new voters with 494 transfers.

Meanwhile, Kajiado West Constituency registered 7,540 new voters and 751 transfers, rounding off a countywide performance that exceeded expectations.

Election officials noted that the transfer figures indicate increased voter mobility, with many residents updating their polling stations to reflect current places of residence.

Boost for electoral preparedness

The successful exercise is expected to strengthen electoral preparedness in Kajiado County, as the IEBC continues efforts to expand the voter register and enhance inclusivity.

Officials say the turnout reflects growing public confidence in the electoral process and increased awareness campaigns targeting first-time voters and previously unregistered citizens.

The commission is expected to continue with voter education initiatives to ensure more Kenyans are registered ahead of the next electoral cycle.
