Why your "Monthly Usage" matters more than you think
KPLC uses a "step-up" billing system. If you are a light user (under 30 units), your base rate is nearly 40% cheaper than an ordinary user.
- 0–30 Units: The "Lifeline" bracket for low-income households or small apartments.
- 31–100 Units: The standard "Ordinary" bracket for most families.
- Over 100 Units: A premium rate applies.
Token History: Why 1,000 Shillings feels "random"
The results you get at the start of the month often differ from the end of the month.
- Fixed Charges: Some levies are charged only on your first purchase of the month.
- Bracket Jumping: If your first purchase of KSh 2,000 gets you 60 units, you've "jumped" from the Lifeline bracket into the Ordinary bracket mid-purchase. Our calculator helps you predict this jump.
| Amount Spent (KSh) | Est. Units (Ordinary) | Est. Units (Lifeline) |
| 100 | 3.1 Units | 4.3 Units |
| 500 | 15.6 Units | 21.7 Units |
| 1,000 | 31.2 Units | 43.4 Units |
| 5,000 | 156.1 Units | 217.2 Units |
