Babu Owino shows off completed Nyayo–Fedha Road

Date:

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has flaunted the just completed road linking Nyayo Estate Gate B to Fedha Stage, presenting the project as a practical example of constituency-level development aimed at easing daily life for residents.

With shots of the newly finished stretch, Owino said the road was designed to address long-standing transport challenges in the area, where poor infrastructure had slowed movement, damaged vehicles and limited access for public transport. He described the project as part of his broader push to prioritise “visible, usable development” over political rhetoric.

SIMPLY IMPORTANT

“This is the kind of work that changes people’s lives in very simple but important ways,” Owino said, as he walked along the road, pointing to its improved surface and drainage. “Better roads mean less time on the road, safer travel and more opportunities for businesses.”

The upgraded link is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Nyayo Estate and Fedha, cutting travel times for commuters and allowing buses and matatus to operate more efficiently. Residents say the road had previously become nearly impassable during the rainy season, forcing vehicles to take longer alternative routes.

Local transport operators welcomed the completion, saying smoother access would translate into more predictable journeys and lower vehicle maintenance costs. Pedestrians are also expected to benefit from improved safety, particularly at night and during periods of heavy rainfall.

COLLABORATION

Owino credited collaboration between constituency development structures and local stakeholders for the project’s delivery, arguing that small but targeted infrastructure investments can have an outsized impact in densely populated urban areas. He said similar road and drainage upgrades were planned in other parts of Embakasi East.

Beyond mobility, the MP said the improved road would support local commerce by easing access for customers and suppliers. Small businesses operating along the route are expected to see increased traffic, while residents anticipate improved property values and a better overall living environment.

Residents interviewed by the Top News welcomed the project, with several describing it as long overdue. “This road has changed everything,” said Kenneth Kimathi, a trader near Fedha Stage. “What used to take a long time and damage our vehicles is now smooth and fast.”

AGGRESSIVE WORK

In a characteristically punchy message to constituents, Owino framed the road as evidence of an aggressive work ethic. “Nitawachosha na kazi,” he said, loosely translating to a promise to “tire you with work”, before adding his popular refrain: “Babu kwa sababu, bila babu tabu.”

As traffic flows more freely along the Nyayo Estate Gate B–Fedha Stage corridor, the completed road stands as a visible marker of Owino’s attempt to anchor his political brand in tangible infrastructure — and a test of whether such projects can translate into sustained improvements across the constituency.
