Security agencies have uncovered what is believed to be a major terror-linked supply network after a multi-agency operation in Nairobi led to the recovery of uniforms suspected to belong to the militant group Al-Shabaab.
The operation, conducted by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) alongside the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU), targeted a site in the KBS Garage area of Eastleigh, where detectives seized a large consignment of military-style clothing.
Intelligence-led operation exposes supply route
According to investigators, the raid followed weeks of intelligence gathering that pointed to suspicious logistical activities within the area.
Officers from DCI Starehe recovered 11 bales, each packed with dozens of camouflage uniforms and t-shirts. A subsequent follow-up operation led to the seizure of an additional bale containing similar items.
Authorities believe the materials were part of a coordinated distribution chain intended to support extremist activities within the region.
“This was not an isolated discovery but part of a broader network designed to facilitate militant operations,” a security source familiar with the investigation said.
Cross-border links raise alarm
Preliminary findings suggest the consignment may be linked to a wider regional network, with connections stretching beyond Kenya’s borders.
Investigators traced similar shipments to an earlier interception in Dhobley, within the Jubaland region, where security forces reportedly seized dozens of related bales.
The goods are believed to have originated from overseas suppliers before being routed through local parcel services in Nairobi.
Security officials say the pattern points to an increasingly sophisticated supply chain used by extremist groups to move materials discreetly across countries.
Security agencies intensify crackdown
Following the seizure, authorities have heightened surveillance and investigations to dismantle the network and identify individuals behind the operation.
While no arrests had been publicly confirmed by the time of reporting, security agencies indicated that efforts are underway to track down suspects and disrupt further movement of such materials.
The latest development underscores growing concerns over evolving tactics by terror groups, particularly their reliance on commercial logistics systems to transport supplies undetected.
Officials have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities as investigations continue.
