Inside Ruto-Kalonzo War of words/why #Kalonzo is trending

Date:

President William Ruto and Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka have in the past 2 days engaged in a war of words prompted by President’s Ruto plan to propel Kenya to First World status.

On Sunday 14, 2025, Kalonzo accused the government of financing projects unconstitutionaly saying resource mobilisation not anchored in the budget violates established legal provisions.

Kalonzo dismissed Ruto’s plan as unrealistic terming it as “Living in fantasy”

In response, President William Ruto accused Kalonzo of being a naysayer and leading the campaign against his agenda to transform the country.

The President suggested that Kalonzo had no moral authority to lecture him on development, adding the road leading to Kalonzo’s home has yet to be tarmacked despite his long tenure in politics.

“There are those saying we can’t achieve all that I have announced. I want to tell them that they are the ones who can’t achieve anything. They have no plan. It would be unreasonable to wait for someone who has never developed his rural road”

“The road leading to his home is dusty and muddy, and he has been in power for decades. If he can’t develop his rural road, where will he get the smartness to plan development for Kenya?”

On Monday, 15 December, Kalonzo hit out at President Ruto over the Sunday remarks that questioned his track record, maintaining he has performed well in his political career and faulted President Ruto saying he has nothing to show.

“President William Ruto was in Kiambu, instead of going to worship he made me the subject. He attacked me saying where I come from there are no roads in my years of service. I have 40 years of serious experience”, Kalonzo said.

“When I was Vice President, I launched the construction of the road with a contractor named Sinohydro, a Chinese contractor whom I commissioned to construct the road from Kibwezi -Mutomo -Kitui-Mwingi – Tseikuru- Maua, and this road connects Ethiopia with Mombasa.”

On Tuesday, during the laying of the foundation stone for Turkana University Students Hostel, President Ruto fired back at Kalonzo, stating the Kibwezi -Mutomo -Kitui-Mwingi – Tseikuru- Maua road was executed during the Jubilee administration when he served as Deputy President.

“That road doesn’t belong to you. Neither did you launch it. We have the facts, look for someone else to lie to, not Kenyans,” he said.

“I heard one of them say I’ve been launching roads he did while in government. He even corrected me, saying he served for 40 years, not 50. My question is, how many years does he need to do a single project? Clearly, these issues are beyond his understanding,”
