Kenya Power announces planned power interruptions across several counties, Jan 28th

Kenya Power has announced planned electricity interruptions affecting several counties across the country on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, to allow for routine maintenance and power network improvement works aimed at enhancing supply reliability.

Nairobi Region

In the Nairobi Region, parts of Nairobi County will experience a power interruption between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. Areas affected include Statehouse Road and parts of Dennis Pritt Road. Customers along Kitale Lane, Likoni Lane, St Georges School, Total Dennis Pritt, Royal Media Services, Shell Dennis Pritt, parts of Cotton Avenue, Maalim Juma Road, parts of Rose Avenue, and adjacent areas will also be affected during the maintenance period.

North Rift Region

In the North Rift Region, parts of Uasin Gishu County will be affected by a power interruption scheduled from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. The outage will impact customers in Kuinet Center, Merewet, Kaprobu, Kipsangui, Teresia, Kaptait, and surrounding areas.

Western Region

In the Western Region, parts of Kisumu County will experience a power interruption from 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Areas affected include Kisian, Mwichiuri, Kimbo, Soweto, Kambi, Kariokor, Gatune, Njogu-Ini, and nearby customers.

South Nyanza Region

In the South Nyanza Region, parts of Kisii County will be without electricity between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. The affected areas include Nyamagwa and Riobara, covering locations such as Igare, Nyamagwa Boys and Mission Hospital, Boitangare, Riobara Market, Nyakodige Primary School, and adjacent customers.

Mt. Kenya Region

In the Mt. Kenya Region, parts of Nyeri County will experience a power interruption from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Areas affected include Kanyagia, Endarasha, and Embaringo. Customers in Essacco, Sangare, Rhino Watch, Uasonyiro, Mairo, Endarasha Market, Pura, Endarasha Secondary School, Watuka Market, Wandare Market, Embaringo Market, Watuka Village, Kimunyuru Market, and surrounding areas will be affected.

Also within the Mt. Kenya Region, parts of Kirinyaga County will be affected between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. The outage will impact customers in Kagumo Town, Mutira Village, Riakiania Village, Kathithi Village, Karaini Coffee Factory, Riakiania Market, Karimaini Village, Hukoini Village, Kiaragana Market, Karuku Village, and adjacent areas.

Embu County

In Embu County, parts of Ishiara will experience a power interruption from 8.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Areas affected include Ishiara Hospital, Ishiara Market, Intex Quarry, and Ketraco Ishiara. Customers in Kanyueri Secondary School, Wonderland Hotel, Karerema Market, Gikomba Market, Kianjeru Secondary School, Monge, Nthigiriani, Munthanthara, Kyenire Market, Mugwanjogu, Bahati Academy, Ciangera, Murangu, St Monica, NCPD Ishiara, Kamutu Secondary School, and adjacent areas will also be impacted.

Eastern Region

In the Eastern Region, parts of Kitui County will be affected by a power interruption from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. The outage will cover Mwitika, Kikuu, and Kyamatu, affecting customers in Kyululu Market, Mwitika Market, Gaka Yakwa Market, Kikuu Market, Kyamatu Market, Muthungwe, Maskalini, Mukunduni Market, and surrounding areas.

Kenya Power has advised customers in all affected areas to make necessary arrangements during the interruption period and apologised for any inconvenience caused as the utility carries out the scheduled maintenance works.
