The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company has announced a temporary disruption in water supply affecting several residential and commercial areas across Nairobi following a major pipeline leak in Kiambu County.
In a public notice issued on Friday, the utility said the interruption was caused by a major leak on the NCT Fresh Water Pipeline at Riabai near Kirigiti, forcing the shutdown of the Kigoro-Gigiri pipeline to facilitate emergency repairs.
According to the company, water supply will be restored progressively once repair works are completed.
“The interruption is due to a major leakage detected on the NCT Fresh Water Pipeline at Riabai near Kirigiti in Kiambu County. Water supply will resume gradually after the repairs are completed,” the notice stated.
Several estates affected
Nairobi Water said customers in the affected areas should expect low water pressure or complete supply interruptions during the repair period.
The affected areas include Westlands, Lavington, Kilimani, Upper Hill, Ngong Road, Madaraka, Lang’ata, Karen, Uthiru, Kawangware, Kangemi, Kibra, Ruai, Ngundu, Kamulu, MAVWASCO and Oloolaiser Water Company service areas.
Residents and businesses have been advised to store adequate water for domestic and commercial use as repair works continue.
Customer update exercise continues
The announcement comes just weeks after Nairobi Water launched a three-month Customer Data Update and Water Service Assessment Exercise targeting customers in Ruai and Kamulu.
The exercise, which began on June 8, is aimed at updating customer records, inspecting water infrastructure and identifying service gaps to improve water supply in the two areas.
According to the company, field officers are reviewing customer information while assessing water connections, meters, storage facilities and firefighting infrastructure.
The utility said the exercise will help improve service delivery by identifying areas requiring maintenance and upgrading.
Residents urged to verify officials
Nairobi Water said its officers may require access to customer premises to inspect water connections, verify customer details, replace faulty meters and secure buried meters for easier maintenance and reading.
To protect residents from fraudsters, the company urged customers to confirm the identity of field officers before granting them access.
Customers can verify Nairobi Water staff by dialling *260#, selecting the “Tambua” option and following the prompts.
The company said the ongoing assessment will provide valuable data to improve customer service, address existing challenges and strengthen water distribution across the affected areas.
