ODM steps up Northern Kenya campaigns ahead of 2027 General Election

Date:

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has intensified efforts to expand its political influence in Northern Kenya as it ramps up preparations for the 2027 General Election.

The party says it is strengthening its grassroots structures across the region as part of a broader strategy to increase membership and improve coordination ahead of the next polls.

In a statement shared on Thursday, ODM said party leader Oburu Odinga met officials from the former Northern Frontier District (NFD) on Wednesday to discuss strategies aimed at consolidating the party’s presence in the region.

“As part of routine engagements with party officials from different parts of the country, the party leader met officials from the Northern Frontier District to discuss how to strengthen ODM in the region as preparations for the next General Election continue,” the party said.

Focus on five counties

According to ODM, the meeting brought together party officials from Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Marsabit and Isiolo counties.

The leaders reviewed the party’s organisational structures and explored ways of increasing grassroots mobilisation while expanding ODM’s support base across Northern Kenya.

The consultations are part of a nationwide engagement programme that has seen the party meet county officials and grassroots leaders in different regions as it prepares for the 2027 elections.

Membership recruitment drive

During the meeting, regional officials reaffirmed their commitment to ODM’s ideals and pledged to spearhead an aggressive membership recruitment campaign in the five counties.

The party said the recruitment exercise is expected to strengthen its local structures while improving its competitiveness in the region ahead of the next electoral cycle.

ODM also noted that closer collaboration between national leaders and county officials will help improve coordination and ensure party activities are effectively implemented at the grassroots.

Preparations for 2027

The Northern Kenya meeting forms part of ODM’s wider plan to reorganise its grassroots network as political parties begin positioning themselves for the 2027 General Election.

In recent months, the party has held similar consultative meetings in different parts of the country to strengthen internal structures, recruit new members and enhance its presence in regions considered strategically important.

With political activity gradually gathering pace, ODM appears keen on expanding its footprint beyond its traditional strongholds as it seeks to build a stronger national support base ahead of the 2027 polls.
