Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on political leaders to exercise restraint and respect during public gatherings, warning against the growing trend of turning solemn occasions into political battlegrounds.
Speaking in Ol Kalou Constituency during a requiem service for the late MP David Kiaraho, Kindiki emphasised the need for dignity, unity, and respect for grieving families.
Kindiki Pays Tribute to “Dignified and Humble” Leader
Kindiki described the late Kiaraho as a principled leader who served his constituents with honour and humility.
“David Kiaraho was a decent man who carried out his political duties with great dignity. He was strong but dignified, brilliant but humble,” Kindiki said.
He urged leaders and citizens alike to reflect on the legacy they intend to leave behind, noting that public service should be guided by integrity and a commitment to community impact.
“As we mourn him, it is time for all of us to ensure we leave a positive mark on our communities and nation when our time comes,” he added.
Call to End Politicisation of Mourning Events
The Deputy President used the platform to caution against the politicisation of funerals and other social gatherings, a practice that has increasingly drawn public concern.
He stressed that such events should remain spaces for reflection, unity, and respect rather than platforms for political confrontation.
“We must respect family, community, religious and social events and refrain from reckless and selfish politicisation that disregards bereaved families and community values,” Kindiki stated.
Leaders Gather in Nyandarua for Final Tribute
Kindiki attended the service alongside President William Ruto, government officials, and local leaders, as mourners paid their final respects to the fallen legislator.
The burial, held in Ol Kalou, brought together leaders from across the political divide, even as underlying tensions occasionally surfaced during speeches.
Despite the charged atmosphere, Kindiki maintained that unity and decorum must prevail, especially during moments of national grief.
